Anniversary Countdown
The countdown for this year's Writing.Com anniversary is on. In about one week, you will find a new link in the left navigation bar above "Things To Do & Read." It will say (if things stay the same from year to year, that is) WdC Party Central . As soon as that link comes up, I urge you to click on it and read everything that comes up. Put it in your favorites to catch updates immediately. The whole month of September, with the first week in particular, will be buzzing with contests and activities to celebrate 11 amazing years with The StoryMaster and The StoryMistress . Tons of gift points, merit badges of all kinds, writing and reviewing challenges, auctions and raffles, and many other things will be set up for all of us, by site staff and by members. Be sure to be on board.
WdC's anniversary will mark the 11th year the site has been up and running, giving writers of all skill levels a place to mingle and hone their craft. Thinking about the number 11 reminded me that in German, we have a special word for birthdays that mark the 11th, 22nd, 33rd, etc. birthdays. After asking a couple of people (thanks, Harry) and trying an internet search, I realized that there was no one word for such anniversaries or birthdays with all the same digits.
Your challenge this week = come up with a creative word that could be used for such occasions. By the power of our sheer numbers, we will then bring that word out into the world and coin it as a new English phrase. To further illustrate, think of the expression "brain freeze." This has no exact translation. While Americans get brain freeze, people in other countries simply get a headache. Well, I'd like to see a word that can be applied to any birthday with the same digits. All ideas will be featured in my next newsletter and the best will make it into circulation through word of mouth.
