About This Newsletter

There was a day, last week or nearly a decade ago, that you typed "writing" into your search engine. You wanted to show off some of your poems, shorts stories, or maybe even get feedback for a whole novel. You found Writing.com.
On this site you found all that you had searched for: Portfolio space, helpful reviewers, encouraging groups, style and grammar lessons from peers. But nothing had prepared you for this:

Letter from the editor

Writing for contests has many benefits:

*Bullet* most contests have a prompt
*Bullet* there are word count limits to observe
*Bullet* the deadline forces you to write with a time limit
*Bullet* nearly any contest offers a review of your item
*Bullet* gift points or ribbons can be won for the best pieces

Contests can challenge you to explore genres you wouldn't normally write for

Have you ever tried your hand at acronyms just for the fun of it? Right here, on WDC, you have two contests that challenge you to turn a string of letters into a sentence that makes sense. Other contests ask you to let your imagination run free, or to write from an animal's point of view.

Where are the activities?

Right here: "Activities @ Writing.ComOpen in new Window. *Bigsmile*

On the activities page, you will find auctions, raffles, review activities and much more. If you have a new idea, don't be shy: make the forum and put it up. In the editor's picks, I have attempted to show how longs standing activities, writing ideas, and raffles can live side by side with brand new offerings.

The year is still young. Add "Enter at least one contest per month" to your resolutions. All it takes is one acronym. *Smile*
