however secretly,
he is in a sense writing for publication.

Letter from the editor

Greetings, fellow writers*Smile*

It was on a cold December day that a traveler, lost, stumbled upon a place where a beacon of rainbow light ended and began anew, dancing across the snow in a lyric cacophony. She followed the vibrant sound, hoping for a moment's respite from the chill emptiness. She was welcomed with open arms and encouraged, no, coaxed and cajoled, to join the eclectic group of peers that choreographed and conducted the symphony of words and images called Writing.Com. Obvious, I know; I was that traveler.

The folks here wanted to know what I thought of their poems, their stories, and their art. They asked me for my opinion, in public, out loud, in writing! Now come on, how often does someone ask you what you think, and then listen to and consider your response*Rolleyes* I received some serious thanks for my comments (reviews). Then they demanded (politely) that I allow them to return the favor by sharing my words, and my hopes and aspirations. I was scared, but they insisted, and I opened the portfolio they offered me and began to write, my words, in verse and prose, for others to read. And I even posted a very short bio sharing a bit of my reality. And they did read, and comment, and suggest, and sometimes praise. They gave me the confidence to pursue in earnest my dream, decades languishing in silence, of seeing my words in print. I owe in large part to this Community my three poems in print and two short stories in anthologies and, you know, this is just the beginning. This traveler has found a home to plant and tend and harvest words fit to print.

So, fellow traveler, I ask you now to share your words, your art! If your portfolio is empty (pale gray), put something in it, your creation. We really do want to hear your voice in words poetic or prosaic, in images comedic or tragic. Add your 'voice' to this eclectic symphony.

*Bullet*If you're stuck, scroll now as you're reading to the top of the screen, under Site Navigation, click on Things to Do and Read, and in bright red, you'll see Create Something. Click on the bright red words and share your work. You can also find this prompt, to 'Create Something,' at the top of your screen

*Star*Then, put a cover on your portfolio. Share something about yourself - maybe why you're here, or who you are, a bit of your writer's/artist's journey. Say as much or as little as you wish, you can change it anytime, it's your portfolio*Smile*

*Bullet*At the top of your screen, right under 'Get Started' click on 'My Account' ~ and the first thing you find in bold letters at the top right of the next screen, is the setting for your personal information. As you click open, you find your own 'Bio Box' awaiting your words. Write a little something about yourself - your writing, your family, whatever you like. You don't have to get elaborate or use twenty-dollar words. Be yourself. Then, scroll to the bottom of the screen and save your bio. Remember, you can change it anytime you like. It's Your Bio.*Smile*

Then go brag about it and find some other cool portfolios to explore ~

Great NL, Kate !!
You're right. "Newbie" is not our identity. We are part of the family from day one. I can vouch for that.
Thanks
winnie (a New Peer)

Thanks for writing, Winnie. And keep writing, we want to hear what you have to say*Writing*

And I bid you each good-day and good writing with some inspiring words. A published poet and writer and mentor; he welcomed me as a peer some four years ago and bade me add my voice to the chorus that is Writing.Com. His pen may now be capped, but his words and deeds echo over time and space ~ read aloud and hear again with me the voice of Larry ~ever our Kansaspoet~ in welcome.*Heart*
