About This Newsletter

What is a mystery? It's like a puzzle. A reader has to discover the secret or riddle in order to solve it and find out who the criminal or enemy is. Clues are imperative, but should be puzzling. Make a reader have to think by using a strong plot that paints a picture in the reader's mind, yet leaves them guessing.*Smile*

*Star* What is your idea of a good mystery? Is it a cozy mystery with less action, a hard-boiled detective mystery, an amateur detective mystery, or one not mentioned here?

Letter from the editor

I can't do it! This is not true. Anyone can write a good mystery. Just sit back and let your Muse go to work. *Wink* As a published author, I can tell you that writing a mystery just requires letting your mind travel to several things. The first being the plot. Do you want to write a cozy story or one of combining genres? The second is what era you wish for the tale to be written in. Do you want the plot to have historical or supernatural facts? If one of history, do your research on the time before beginning to write the story. If you are writing a combination supernatural/mystery, research is just as important. Whatever type of mystery you intend to write must have the proper setting, character definition, and facts to support the tale just like any other genre. For example, if you are writing a puzzling detective story, why would a romance between characters be important unless one of them is withholding something pertaining to the mystery? A good example of this would be The Astronaut's Wife. It is a movie featuring Johnny Depp. He and his friend are sent on a mission to space and come back totally different than the men they were before leaving. It is a solid mystery that had me glued to my seat until the end. So never say "I can't do it! *Smile* Let your Muse sweep you to a world/worlds that will leave a reader on edge. *Star*

**If you have a good mystery you would like read, post it here or email me. I just love a good mystery! *Delight* **
