Happy Happy Holidays!

Since I volunteered to be guest Editor for this Comedy Newsletter, I've been racking my brain trying to come up with a list of potential funniness related to the winter holiday season. Truth is, there is virtually an unlimited number of comedic symbols and events associated with the season. Instead, I'll share a personal story of one funny Christmas.

My twin sister and I love Christmas. We'd start writing our lists during the summer, actually. We couldn't wait for the holiday season of great food, the family coming together, and, yes, we were excited about the gifts.

In fact, we'd get so excited about Christmas, we made a rule for ourselves: For about a week or two before the holiday, we weren't allowed to mention the word "Christmas." Sure, we could make cookies, listen to the festive songs, help our Mom decorate the house, but that "C" word wasn't to be spoken.

It worked well to dispell the growing and almost overwhelming anticipation, that is, until Christmas Eve. See, our parents, in an effort to torture us (we were convinced, anyway), let us open one gift the night before Santa visited our house. Often we'd forget this tradition until Mom & Dad mentioned it. Our eyes would snap open wide in excitement (and there would be no easy falling asleep after, for sure).

Well, one year, our parents decided to play a trick on us. Christmas Eve went by like any other with last minute preparations for the big day. That night, we remembered the pre-holiday gift opening and asked our parents over and over when we would be allowed to open that one early gift. Finally, just before bedtime, they brought a present out for both of us to open together.

The suspension was near torture for us, waiting for that one early gift. It was a small taste of the sheer joy we'd feel the next morning (before the sun came up if we had our way). We tore the wrapping paper to shreds in a giddy frenzy to find that first gift which was a symbol of Christmas to us. And to our dismay, we found that we'd just unwrapped - a toilet seat.

*Laugh*

To say we were disappointed would be a rather large understatement. We did have a laugh about it later, and it remains an annual story we tell each Christmas. *Smile*

For these winter holidays, I wish you good health, much happiness & hearty laughter! *Smile*
