Letter from the editor

As Halloween approaches I was thinking how fun it is to put on a costume and take on another identity and grab candy for a few hours. If you or your character is running from either the law or an unsavory faction of society a change of clothing and a mask are only the start of a change. You are going to need a disguise that will help you blend into your environment, not stick out. Along with the new outward appearance you are going to need the official documents to go along with it; a driver's license, Social Security card, passport, diplomas, credit cards, etc.

The above list are the things that can link you to a new identity but there are still things out there that can still put the “old self” in danger of detection. I won't spend much time talking about DNA or fingerprints because these can't be changed or altered, besides if your disguise is used well enough your trackers won't have a reason to try and collect these items.

Let's spend some time on talking about the things you need to change to avoid having your ruse being discovered. Do you talk with a noticeable accent, have a limp, a unique tattoo in a visible area, have to follow a certain routine such as eating at the same time everyday, take prescribed drugs, only date a person with a certain hair color? See how difficult it is to make a new persona? It goes beyond the hair, eye and skin color, what you carry in your wallet/purse and what you have in your closet.

For November I challenge you to change the “You” and put the new identity into a story. Since I'm only a guest editor this month I ask you to email me the link to the new story and I'll review your story and pass you some gift points.
