What Do Those Numbers Mean?

*Snow2*~*Flower3*~*Snow3*~*Flower3*~*Snow2*

         Yeah, the ones next to your handle, right? I wondered that for the longest time before I looked into it. *Bigsmile* Those are your Community Recognitions. *Smile* Huh? *Confused* Allow me to explain further:

         Recognitions are an overall total of your merit badges, referred members, and Bonus Recognitions.

*Check5* Merit badges are gifted for various reasons. If you send the reviews you give to the Public Review page and make it to the Top 100 Reviewers by the end of the month, you will receive a merit badge for that. Many members also gift merit badges in contests, for donations, support, friendship, judging a contest, and many other reasons. If, however, you receive two MBs from the same member within two weeks, only one will qualify for a recognition. You will still be awarded the badges, but not credited. *Smile*

*Check5* Referred members 'Recognitions' are awarded to those in this coommunity for each new member who signs up and maintains their membership. However... that member must first have clicked into your portfolio before any other and before becoming a member. For more details, please read "Referred Member TrackingOpen in new Window. and "Promoting Your Portfolio URLOpen in new Window.. *Bigsmile*

*Check5* Bonus Recognitions are awarded for a few different reasons: Length of your membership (5 Bonus Recognitions per each yearly anniversary), Account level recognitions which are as follows:

Registered Authors --> 1 Bonus Recognition
Preferred Authors --> 10 Bonus Recognitions
Writing.Com Moderators --> 20 Bonus Recognitions
Writing.Com Sr. Moderator --> 30 Bonus Recognitions
Writing.Com Staff --> 40 Bonus Recognitions

*Check5* Review Recognitions are rewarded 1 per every 100 current reviews. If an item is removed (deleted), however, the review will no longer be considered current. So... if you've given 327 reviews, you will have 3 Review Recognitions to your credit. Once you make it to 400 reviews, you will have 4 Review Recognitions. But if one of thse items that you reviewed is deleted, you will then only have 399 reviews which will bump your 4 to a 3 until, of course, you give another review. *Bigsmile*

*Bigsmile* Now you know what those numbers stand for. If you would like a breakdown from the total of any member's Comminity Recognitions, including your own, all you need to do is click on the number. Everything listed should be pretty self-explanitory. *Smile*

While it is wonderful to be involved in the community, not every member has the time... or perhaps they are here to concentrate on their writing and do not care to get overly involved, if at all. A community is made up of several personalities. Not everyone is cut from the same material. *Wink* Community Recognitions should not be taken as a contest or game. Cheating is not well-thought of by staff, so please... Remember that recognitions should be earned in a well-deserved and honest manner. *Bigsmile*

Have a happy, safe February and,,,

Keep on Writing!

Yours truly,
Cubby ")

Excerpt: She spread her arms wide and she could almost feel the wind on her face, rippling through her orange hooded jumpsuit. She could almost taste the salty air, the humid mists breathing lightly in her face.

She was almost back there…

But she wasn’t.

A small electronic beep issued from her belt, a clear, high pitched chirp that wordlessly told her that the sixty minutes allotted per day in the Sense Cube had expired. She would need to return to her duties as Signal Officer.

Excerpt: Many of us lead our daily lives not in total honesty…not with ourselves and even less with others. Our families and friends “see” us yet, rarely “know” us…for we, most often, do not reveal our true identities because our true identities are oft’ times vague to us. We go about our tasks day to day in the guise of another “character”. We playact the role of strangers…to strangers, by strangers…for, much of the time, we are strangers even unto ourselves.

Excerpt: The muscles in Narcissa’s back stretched and tightened as she rolled her shoulder and tucked her right arm behind her head. Her breathing was labored and her legs sang in the afterglow of a good run. A light breeze rustled the wisps of pitch black hair that had come loose from her ponytail so she brushed them away absently as her eyes narrowed in response to the heavy rays of midmorning sunlight. The hairs on her arm bristled as a shadow approached her from behind. The scent of the woods mixed with sweat and blood flooded through her senses, and she smiled. “You’re late.”

What is the true face of real happiness?

Excerpt: “Hey, what time is it?”

“It’s past seven...”

“Ahhh… Ok… Thanks…”

“WHAT? IT’S PAST SEVEN IN THE MORNING?!” Angelo anxiously exclaimed, because he’s now late for today’s classes. His cousin, Kelvin, now attired and ready for school, waited for him to fix up.

This is the great idea to make a newsletter become fun and interesting! Thanks for sharing, Cubby!

Hmm... To me, January is a pretty busy month to me but actually, not this month only but also the whole year of 2008. There're no free times to me until the end of November so I have to struggle to find a free time to write something... >_<!

It's been like that for me this past year, too. It's a really struggle to find the free time, and when I do, my mind draws blanks. I have, however, been writing non-fiction recently, which is not my priority, but I've discovered I am enjoying it. *Shock*

This is my first newsletter and I enjoyed it. I took a couple of your polls and read and reviewed a couple of the contest winners and just had some fun. Thank you.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the newsletter! I hope all is going well for you. *Smile* This is a great community and we open our arms to new members!

In response to Cubby's Question of the Month, I'd have to say that December is the hardest month to write in because Thanksgiving is just over, and there are a lot of holidays in the one month itself, so it just gets too busy to write sometimes.

That is a tough month to write in. Many times the only thing that sparks my muse at that time of year, are contests that prompt holiday themes. *Bigsmile* Thank you for your response!

Interesting selection of polls; they also serve to incite the muse; creative Blogs also have become a professional writing tool; a good introduction here to this versatile marketing and expository vehicle. ^_^ Kate

Thank you, Kate! *Bigsmile* Thank you for your response. Many of the blogs here have really amazed me with the creativity they include. Wow. I never thought of a blog as a professional writing tool a few years back, but I certainly do now.
