About This Newsletter

Gifted to me by my darling sister Kel.

What is a mystery? It's like a puzzle. A reader has to discover the secret or riddle in order to solve it and find out who the criminal or enemy is. *Worry*

A good mystery is filled with various clues and plot. It is like a game between the criminal and detective. In this week's newsletter, I would like to point out good teen mysteries.

Letter from the editor

Long before Dean Koontz or R.L. Stein were known, a man known as Franklin W. Dixon thrilled millions of young adults with "The Hardy Boys" series.

Born Charles Leslie McFarlane in Carleton Place, Ontario, and using the pseudonym Frankllin W. Dixon, his popularity stems from ghostwriting many of the earlier books in "The Hardy Boys" series. He became a freelance writer shortly after high school, and he and his family moved to Whitby, Ontario in 1936.

Female teen mysteries? A great example is Carolyn Keene's "Nancy Drew". These books are still among the top sellers.

The first 22 "Nancy Drew" mysteries were written by Mildred A. Wirt Benson. The name Carolyn Keene was chosen by The Stratemeyer Syndicate later. Over 200 million books have been sold worldwide. Many collect the series, which has gone through several formats throughout the years. The books have been in print since 1930. *Shock* The name Carolyn Keene is also used to author a series of books entitles "The Dana Girls", which features two female detective sisters and is a crossbreed of "The Hardy Boys" and "Nancy Drew" mysteries.

So popular are "The Hardy Boys" and "Nancy Drew" mysteries, they were made into films over the years, and even computer games. Still the rage with young adults, the books can be found in almost all bookstores, retail stores, and online.
