About This Newsletter

Welcome to this week's edition of the Spiritual Newsletter *Smile*.

Sometimes it can be difficult to be creative. Sometimes it can be easy to just block out the world. Too easy. Which made me wonder - is there a link between spirituality and creativity?

Letter from the editor

Hello, dear reader.

It’s been a while since I wrote for the Spiritual Newsletter. Last year, in fact, if I remember correctly. I had to be away from the Internet for most of this year, but I am back now. It’s an honour to be writing for this Newsletter again. I hope that my words in here will be of help to you.

One reason I mentioned my absence is that during the last few months I’ve had plenty of opportunity to ponder and reflect. This can be a good thing. I noticed that when I was away from W.Com, I couldn’t write at all, and I wondered why. Eventually I came to wonder if there is a link between spirituality and creativity.

Sometimes life is hard and we lock ourselves away from the world. For a while, this can be a positive and healthy solution – it is always good to take some time to work out where we are going in life, some “me time”. But if you hide away for too long there is the risk of shutting everything else out. We stop experiencing. And once we stop experiencing it is difficult to be creative.

To be more specific, if you hide away for whatever reason and get locked inside your own little world, you are probably not in a good place and something needs to be fixed. This makes it difficult to grow, spiritually. A part of spirituality, at least for me, is all about growing as a person, bettering yourself as a person.

The same goes for writing. Writing, in part, is about growing as a writer as well as a person. When you’re sad, it is usually easy to write and the writing helps you to deal. When you’re angry, you let it out on paper and it helps you to calm down. When you’re in love, writing is a way to share this love with the world. When you’ve lost someone, writing helps you to cope. When you’re happy, writing is a way to share this happiness with others. When you’ve made an important realisation, writing it down can inspire others. All these are little ways that help a person grow, day by day.

But when you stop experiencing, hide away, get trapped inside yourself for whatever reason, growing as a person is difficult. I guess one way to put it, one way to link it to creativity is to say that when nothing goes in, nothing comes out.

When I returned to Writing.Com I was happy. Once I found that happiness I was open once more to inspiration and ever since my return I have been writing a lot. Fair enough, my writing may be a bit rusty around the edges, but I am writing. And this adds to my happiness.

I wanted to share this with you because I come across so many people who go through times when they find themselves unable to write. If you find it difficult, it could be helpful to see if there is anything in your life that might need fixing. Do you get enough “me” time? Are you running around all day looking after others but not getting the time to write, that time you need? Are you doing enough things on a regular basis that make you happy? Are you having enough positive experiences that might inspire you? Whatever the reason, it can be helpful to have a look at your situation.

Just don’t lock yourself away, though. We all need the world around us. And the world around us is full of inspiration. It’s out there, you just need to grab it and write.

Until next time,

kittiara
