About This Newsletter

The contests and activities on this site are constantly changing! Almost every day there is something new and exciting to view and participate in. The ideas are endless. Some succeed, some manage to get along, while others, unfortunately, are left behind and forgotten. My goal as your Contest & Activity newsletter editor is to provide each of you with the tools it takes to create a great success.

Letter from the editor

It's finals week. At least for me. It's the time of the quarter when the teachers thank you for your hard work, tell you how much they've enjoyed teaching you and all sorts of flattery (then, of course, they hand out those surveys that students are to fill out anonymously, rating the professor. Hmmm...). But, there's a sense of accomplishment as you turn in that final. You get to breathe that sigh of relief, then take a short break before you begin obsessively checking online for grades being posted.

Kinda funny, but that's a lot like contests, don't you think? You work and work, edit, delete, rewrite, rework, and finally post your contest entry. Then, of course, you go back to edit it a dozen more times before that final deadline. You get to breathe that sigh of relief, then take a short break before you begin obsessively checking online for the judging results to be posted.

Frustrating, isn't it?

The moral of this school-related metaphor (can you tell I just finished an English literature final?): contest hosts and judges, don't take too long in getting results out. You've got contestants chewing their nails and waiting to find out if all their hard work has paid off and earned them that A first place (sorry, finals on the brain).

When hosting a contest, try to think of a reliable time frame that you'll have the judging done in and post this in the message forum body. This will not only keep you from having your inbox flooded with "when will judging be done" emails, but it will also help those poor contestants keep their manicures looking fresh. If you are going to take longer than expected, post in the forum as soon as possible (seriously, posting a "judging is taking longer than expected" on the day results are supposed to be out does horrid things to a contestant's nerves).

And, of course, flatter all the contestants like crazy so that they'll leave you those good reviews (just like those lying professors).
