Go Ahead, Touch it!
It's easy to get overwhelmed with life outside of Writing.Com and end up missing out here. Being a member here is more than posting written items to our portfolios and reading others' writing. Although that is (and should) be a site mainstay forever.
To be seen by more people, it helps to go outside of your comfort zone and peek above the edge of the plate. There are many places where you can touch bases with fellow writers in daily, weekly, or monthly repeating cycles. The best part about them is that you often get some kind of acknowledgement for your efforts.
Granted, not every contest will send you a review. Likely, you won't win with all of your entries either. But with each contribution you make, you will get someone to see your efforts. Even if you only get one person somewhere in the world to read your story and laugh, cry, or feel anything at all, you have won!
Go ahead and try out some of the writing gatherings around the site that egg you on to come back frequently and become part of a group of friends across time zones and English styles.
Just recently, I discovered a short story that was written during the 2018 round of "I Write " , a writing activity that is designed to get people to enter more contests. Over the years, I have witnessed dozens of stories winning prizes and writers tell that they entered because they needed to get their weekly entry submitted.
This year, there are several such places where you can try to win at short stories, long short stories, and poetry, or replying to daily prompts requesting your presence in an alternate universe. Don't miss out. Come along. Spin a bunch of plates at once.
How many plants can you grow at the same time? |

Replies to my last Contests & Activities newsletter "Community Involvement" that asked: Which non-writing activities have you tried?
StephBee wrote: I really enjoy the Newsfeed. It's a great place to share ideas, jokes and fellowship. It's a place where you can update the community on the contests, fundraisers or raffles you host, as well as learn about new bitems you want to check out. I highly recommend the newsfeed - and earning the Newsfeed MB every 7 days is definitely a motivator for me.
All of these are very good reasons to peruse and participate on the Newsfeed daily.
Elycia Lee ☮ Raya wrote: Thanks for the reminder, Annette. I always forget to check out "Writing.Com General Discussion" even though I can get points from "WDC Dragon Vale " when I do engage in a conversation there.
And if you reply to a thread, you get one day's worth of credit toward your seven day forum posts. |
