Letter from the editor

When you first joined this site, your entire focus was writing and posting, then sharing, and hoping for some positive reviews. That's exactly what this place provides. What you probably didn't know is that Writing.com is so much more than just a site to share your writing. This place is a community, a family. A second home for many of us.

Some of you have just joined the site and are looking for navigational advice. The place can be overwhelming to a new member. There is just so much to take in, but once you settle in, after you click on who knows how many links a day, forget the time, and can't wait for tomorrow to do it all over again, it becomes easier. Take your time.

For others who almost have been grandfathered into the site, we tend to forget the simple things this site has to offer. Other than writing, sharing, reviewing, there's a whole other world out there. We get used to the every day. At times we find a group or forum where we fit right in and we stick with it. Time can be a challenge so we have to limit it to what we need to do and what has to be done. Everything else takes a back seat.

The members who have been here for years, their birthdays come as do their anniversaries. We tend to jump onto their newsfeed to wish them all the best, sometimes include a Trinket (because who doesn't love those?!), send them a C-Note (Community Note) and make it more personal, or we send them a Merit Badge. Merit Badge obsession has not left this community nor will it ever.

But there's one thing we've forgotten.

The Wish List

There are a few shops out there, most with signatures and images for sale, but the main shop is "The Writing.Com Shop. You can access it from the left side column, below Create New Item and Read & Review. It's right there, that little shopping cart. When you click on it, the shop will have different categories with items it offers. I've indulged myself many times by buying things, not to mention, gotten myself a yearly membership. Everything in that shop can be bought with Gift Points, as long as you have enough. Some things I've added to my wish list. On occasions I've received those items from others and I love the surprise aspect of it.

Have you checked your wish list in the shop? Maybe it's time to update it. Although, if you have a chance, look at all the wish lists that are in the shop. You friend might have something they want and you can surprise them with it. Wouldn't that be something? We forget that it exists. We go there, get our membership and don't look at it again. So why not surprise someone with a small gesture of such a gift? In order to do so, you have to allow the site to access your information, so they can send it to you. Some of you might have concerns about that, but let me tell you something. This is the safest site I've ever been on. Your information isn't handed out to anyone, not even the person who would like to gift you with a physical gift. It's only for the owner so they can send it to you.

When you have some time to spare or need a break from writing, go take a look. Set up your wish list. You never know who is watching or who might feel gracious enough to grant you a wish.

'til next time!
