Letter from the editor

Hi everyone! I've been bestowed the honor of Guest Editor this week!*Smile*

There are a wide variety of things to do here at Writing.Com. Some of the contests and activities open their arms to every genre and style while others tend to focus on a single one. Those that are genre or style specific are what I'd like to focus on.

Choosing a particular area for your contest to cover will bring in a certain type of writer. It will also give you focus toward what you are looking for when judging.

For instance, I host two different horror contests, one a weekly flash fiction, the other runs sporadically. I know what I'm looking for in terms of content. Both run off prompts that are provided. I know I must look for their tie into the prompt. The story has to either scare me or make me uneasy in my otherwise cozy world. I can also expect a lot of the same entrants. Those that enter contests work hard on their entries and I love to see what macabre magic they will turn out next. Also, as Newbies come to our site, I will see an influx of new blood into the entries. This is also exciting! I love to see our new folks become active on the site and contests are a great way to do that.

Hosting contests has brought me hours of reading pleasure. I see some excellent writing in the entries submitted. Do I have a preference when it comes to genre specific verses non-specific contests? No. I host both and I enjoy them equally.

I hope you enjoyed my little foray into this subject. Keep creating and entering contests and activities!

~Nikola
