About This Newsletter

Spirituality and religion can be hard to tell apart but there are defined differences between the two. Religion is a specific set of organized beliefs and practices, usually shared by a community or group. Spirituality is more of an individual practice and has to do with having a sense of peace and purpose.

Letter from the editor

*Vignette6* Spirituality:
These stories are about a personal transformation that often involves the belief in a power greater than oneself. Additionally, they discuss techniques and the journey of finding and believing in, and becoming linked to something bigger (God or deity) than themselves. The stories do not necessarily have anything to do with religion, because spirituality is often separated from religion in that it's based on subjective experience and psychological growth.

Often written in first-person, authors write about discovering religion, developing more profound relationships with God/deity, or using spirituality to overcome struggles.

*Vignette6* Religious:
Religious stories explore themes and topics related to belief, faith, morality, and spirituality. Items in this genre include fiction or nonfiction, covering many faiths and religions. For example, you can find religious books about Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism, Taoism, Wicca, and many other spiritual traditions.

Religious stories contain extensive religious elements, like allusions or symbolism. A religious fiction story typically has characters who frequently reference and make decisions based on their spiritual beliefs.

*Vignette6* Inspirational:
Inspirational stories are about characters who overcome adversity or reach new levels of understanding that may inspire or encourage readers to face their own struggles with renewed strength. It's about more than just a 'positive character'. The stories need to 'inspire' others with the realization that they can do great things and be better people themselves.
