Newsfeed!
One of the best ways of getting the word out about your contest or activity is by posting on your newsfeed. A lot of people follow others through our Newsfeed feature. If you find Newsfeed in your left column, click it and you can update everyone on your writing progress, or advertise something for everyone to enjoy. You can also save a Newsfeed note and find it easier later. The Save function is in a drop-down list from a little arrow in the upper right corner of the note.
The newsfeed will show newsfeed posts from all the authors you have favorited, including Support. It works much like other feeds on social media. It is a good thing to look through when you first log in to see what is active on the site at the moment. Newsletters are reposted there, for you to click and read, and respond to the newsletter questions. Editors appreciate your responses and enjoy knowing someone is reading their editorials.
If you're hosting an activity, the Newsfeed is a great way to invite people to come take a look and participate. You can also remind participants a deadline is coming up or announce winners. The whole site can congratulate the winners and possibly favorite the contest for future rounds and enter. With NaNoWriMo coming up, post your progress and encourage others. It's a LONG month of writing and it is nice to have a cheering squad. So take a look at the Newsfeed in November and encourage your fellow members while they attempt to write an entire novel.
The Newsfeed is also a place to share your blog entries and other personal thoughts.
So Share and Write On!

Official WDC Contest
The task is simple: Write a short story using the picture prompt as inspiration!
Come on in and enter your funny poem! Write about a humorous situation and exaggerate. Try a rhyming poem, a Limerick, Lyrics, or even pen something absurd.
Prompts:
1. Something spooky is headed your creature/animal's way.
2. It's raining candy! Your creature/animal's reaction.
3. This can fall under nonfiction as well: Favorite place for your animal.
4. This can fall under nonfiction as well: Favorite animal
This month's prompt: share your story about human-AI interaction. How will we deal with AI? How will we include it in our lives - perhaps within our own minds?
A Horror Flash Fiction must be more than 500 words, but fewer than 1,000 words in length.
The concept is pretty straightforward. Much like a typical walk-a-thon where participants are supported by sponsors who have committed to donate a certain amount of financial support for each mile walked, this activity has Sponsors who commit to donating a certain number of GPs for each word written by their sponsored Writers!
You're already entering contests!
Why not get Merit Badges for doing it?

Last month's "Contests & Activities Newsletter (September 28, 2022)" question: What do you spend your gift points on?
AmyJo-Thankful in heart : Let's see, I've used gps to reward reviewers, made a trinket for sharing with everyone, gave several Merit Badges and donating to different events...LOL Thank you for showing me where I can commission a MB, a goal for next year! Still have a couple of auctions to pay for this weekend...not broke yet!
Anna Marie Carlson : I have gifted some Gift Points to others, donated some to contests, renewed my membership, and used some to give out a Merit Badge. I'm trying to save up enough for a Premium membership.
BIG BAD WOLF is Howling : Depends - Merit Badges, Awardicons, my membership.
daninidaho: Other people
Angelica Weatherby- Grateful28 : I splurged it at auction, fundraiser, and contests and had spent it on membership when it was enough as well as shiny new MB. 2 MBs I could see making. Years of saving pays off.
🌕 HuntersMoon : Ditto...
D. Reed Whittaker : Renewal, reward for reviews (1000 pts) and contests (20,000 pts.)
Adherennium - Maybe Writing? : Frivolous things like Merit Badges mainly.
s : I make sue I've got enough to renew my membership.
I reward reviewers.
I have taken to running a contest and pay for the prizes myself.
The occasional MB.
Normal stuff, really.
TheBusmanPoet : I'll donate them at times.
Nobody’s Home : Donations to contests/challenges I've enjoyed
Sending MBs when the notion strikes
Rewarding reviewers anonymously
Fundraisers/raffles/auctions
Buying myself the very occasional sig.
Odessa Molinari : I pay my membership.
N.A Miller : Nothing... keeping them to survive on and have my upgraded status... doesn't make alot of money on pension in rl so the gift points do help me keep on writing.
elephantsealer : I do quite a few reviewing. When I get replies from the writers, I usually send them gift points. Also I give away gift points to some of those in Writing.Com when I received awardicons from them!!!!
Bob : I give them away with reviews.
Mouse says gobble gobble : I send them with my reply to a review i've received. I also may give some on a whim to someone that I like their comments on something. I love raffles, though there doesn't seem to be that many any more.
THANKFUL SONALI Library Class! : Membership!
jdennis01jaj: I give them to people who "do" a lot here on WDC simply because I do nothing, and I felt guilty once.
Happy to write : Mostly membership fees.
