Letter from the editor

Writing.Com turns 21!

And we're having a party!

September 1st marks the anniversary date of WDC, and every year since I joined in 2008 that date (and the following week, or month in some cases) has been celebrated with a huge party commemorating what I consider to be the premier peer-to-peer writing site online.

Literally millions of Gift Points are up for grabs in these various festivities. Members who have been here for at least a year will remember Party Central, a link you'll soon find above the Navigation menu in the left column. If you're industrious, you can search back in the Community Newsfeed to Sep 1-7, 2020 to see what kinds of activities, contests, reviewing events and giveaways were available to members.

Since that might be more work than you're willing to do, I can help you out with a link to an entry in "Site News & AnnouncementsOpen in new Window.: "Celebrating 20 Years!Open in new Window.. Please note that the link, "Writing.Com Party Central 2024!Open in new Window., cited in that entry may soon become unavailable to view while it undergoes a transformation from 2020 to 2021 festivities.

Official WDC festivities last for the first seven days of September; member-hosted activities, events and contests will continue throughout the month. Rest assured there will be no shortage of chances to become involved. Just doing reviewing activities every day can earn you enough gift points to pay for an annual membership. Incentives may be offered for using the WDC Shop.

Check out the Community Newsfeed each day to see what's new on the site. Often new things, such as Awardicons, Merit Badges, Emoticons, Skins and Trinkets, are introduced daily for the first seven days. And contests? You'll find many different contests, both official and member-hosted, which you can enter. Make it a point to to at least enter one per week in September.

To be succinct--get involved! Don't let this year's fun pass you by.

Ask & Answer

Thanks for spending time with me today. At the bottom of every newsletter is a section entitled

*Bullet* *Bullet* *Bullet* Don't Be Shy! Write Into This Newsletter! *Bullet* *Bullet* *Bullet*

followed by a text box. If you liked what you read (or if you didn't), please take time and drop me a line. I'd love to hear your ideas.

From the Newsfeed:

From 🌕 HuntersMoon Author Icon: Yep. Funny thing is, my "adult" writes get TONS of views but the fewest reviews. *Rolling*

I hear that (and agree with you).

From Kåre เลียม Enga Author Icon: I keep track of my blog views and include that number at the bottom of my post. It tells me whether anyone is checking in on me. Also... very interesting to look at old entries... some have obviously been read outside of WDC.

Have you ever put something on private while writing and then forget to change the setting? Those 000 views night be a clue. *Shock* I've done it.

With old items it's interesting to note views versus comments/reviews. Many items are read but not commented upon. The thumbs-up is also useful in that sense. Personally I prefer to comment than give a thumbs-up or formal rate/review.

Great point on the 000 views.

From Dragonfly Author Icon: Nope, never. I like just reading away with out any influence. If I start a story and it isn't good, I go onto others.

That may be the real reason there are more views than actual reviews.
