Reflections of Settings
In my past Romance/Love Newsletter, we first talked about the climax"Romance/Love Newsletter (April 28, 2021)" , then the two main personalities of character that will give a good symbiosis in the story"Romance/Love Newsletter (May 26, 2021)" and now we will talk about the Settings.
Setting means in its literal word is to set, if it's used in our fiction writing it talks about the place and yes it includes the time- same as to our non fiction life.
The place and time in which the story with the main characters would be taking place.
Setting means is to set up or to adapt,
it involves here the different elements to be set up.
Setting is important in the creation to have a good story, because in here it balances and limits the possible vastness envisioned by the mind and helps to narrow and to position the most applicable needed in the plot, as well as to enhance also the personality of the characters.
So setting is one of the elements that are needed to create a bond to the different elements of a story and to avoid the leaking out of possibilities.
I've reflected from a good verse in the Holy scripture that we may adapt and we may apply it to our fiction and non fiction life to create a good setting in a story.
The Interconnection of Space and the Character.
Acts 17:26~From one man He made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live.
We can See here that ever since humans were created, we are intended to have an interconnection also with our environment or the place we will live in.
This made me conclude that sometimes when we already had residence to a place for years, there is already the sentimental attachment to us that place.
Here are the keys that we may reflect the importance of setting in our story.
1. God created first the heavens and the earth - the place.
Genesis 1:1~ In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
The author of life, first created the setting before adding the different elements.
It is important then that we plan or imagine first the setting so that there will be a 'boundary to follow for our characters and the scenes.
For example -
I am thinking of creating a fantasy story for children.. then the setting should be 'linked on what I am planning to be the story.
It's nonsense if the setting would be taking place in the city with the trendy pandemic today.
2. There is the right time of everything.
Every creation were taken place at the right time. (Genesis 1)
When God created everything here on earth, there is the designated day for each element, He didn't create it simultaneously but rather gradually. God's creation has the intended day and time because there is a purpose why the first one should need to be first than the other.
Indeed, there is still the interconnection of the event and its in sequential or in order.
Same as when we are creating or setting up the place and timeline of our story, there should be the interconnection of what will happen and every scene should have an important part in the story.
3. Limitation of the characters in the setting.
Genesis 2:15~The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.
Even if we, the characters already had our interconnection with the place and time
We still don't forget the limitation
that we don't own the place and time.
We are only God's stewardess to the place that He created.
In other words, it is expected for us that we should protect and take care of it also.
Same it to our fictional romance story and to our real non fiction life.
It should be reflected there the character's limitation to its space and time.
That one should preserve the space properly, and use each time wisely.
So from the above three ideas, we can now create a based map on how we can adjust the other elements of the story to fit in the setting.
But we all knew that settings will always depend on the creator's will, purpose and intention.
The Creator of Life orderly created everything in an intended time and place.
Everything that happens then and will happen has its own purpose and reason, making our real life story to be the best story that we will have.
It is better then that we should cooperate with Him to use us to the best level that He sees us 'cause He knows truly the best for us.

Our Question for this week Newsletter:
Do you also use a 'connection' between the setting and your characters? what are these?
which is more superior? the setting will follow or adapt the character's need? or the character will follow or adjust what the settings needs?
