Letter from the editor

Do you ever find that there are parts of your responsibilities that aren't as much fun, so you end up putting them off? I certainly do!

I realized lately that I'm more likely to get my work done (and enjoy it) if I'm also listening to podcasts at the same time. I explained my discovery to my sister, and she introduced me to the idea of temptation bundling. It's the idea that you're more likely to do something you may not want to do if you combine it with something you enjoy doing. You're more likely to find a behavior attractive if you get to do one of your favorite things at the same time, according to Atomic Habits, a NY Times bestselling book.

I think this can be tied into the "harder" parts of writing and interacting on our favorite websites. For me, editing my writing isn't very fun. But if I combine that with an activity that I really enjoy, I'm more likely to get it done! I also often tend to let emails build up so my inbox is near full, so I'll try to set aside a time to go through my emails while listening to podcasts or watching my favorite shows or movies.

I think there are less-than-fun parts of almost any activity, even one we really enjoy. Finding ways to get through the boring, tedious, or mundane parts can lead to more overall satisfaction. They key, I think, is to find what motivates you and keeps you on track of your responsibilities!

As always, keep on writing! *Quill*

Ask & Answer

My last newsletter, ("Contests & Activities Newsletter (May 5, 2021)Open in new Window.), discussed finishing what you've started. Here is some feedback from last week's Newsletter readers:

It's actually quite liberating to realize you don't have to finish something, especially if it's a completely voluntary activity. For me, I think it is more conditioning than perfectionism. Life is a continual struggle for balance, but no amount of balancing will give us more time.

I agree! *Smile*

Well the finih what you start is great; thanks for that. As to the rest, it is always helpful. Again thanks.
