About This Newsletter

This is my first newsletter as a permanent editor for Noticing Newbies. *Delight* I'm excited! I have always had a soft spot for newbies, which is why I created "The Newbie Research CenterOpen in new Window., "Newbie Portfolio ProjectOpen in new Window., and "WDC Video Help DeskOpen in new Window.. My goal has always been to learn what newbies find most helpful and/or encouraging, and then figure out ways to DO that.

Hopefully, this will be mutually beneficial. You can help me with my goal, and I can help you learn more about WDC. Win-win.

I've been asked many times over the years where to find good reviews... or how to get more reviews. Not everyone wants the same type of review, so here are some options for finding the type of reviews you're after.

*Buttono* Reviewers Page
*Left* In the left menu, click Reviewers. Here, you can see all of the most recent public reviews. Find someone who is giving the types of reviews you would like to receive. Click their case (the black/yellow/blue/purple box next to the reviewer's name). This will take you to their portfolio. Then, at the top of the screen, click the "Reviews" tab. Scroll down to "Request a Review".

Here, you can request a review if:

1. They allow review requests.
2. Your item meets any criteria they may have included on this page
(some people have rules about reviewing high content ratings, certain formats, and genres)
3. You have enough gift points to pay them for their time.
If gift points are a problem, read the "Get More" section.

This method is much faster and easier than using "Request a Review" under "Community" in the left menu. Why? Because on the Reviewers page, you're seeing people who are reviewing right now. They are active. People on the "Request a Review" page might not have reviewed anyone for a year.

*Buttono* Please Review
*Left* In the left menu, click "Community" and then "Please Review". This is a page where you can share an item with specific information on what you need. Having some trouble with your characters? Ask what they think about the characters. There's no guarantee that they will do exactly what you want, but if you tell people what you need, there's a better chance that you'll get it, right?

*Buttono* Groups
You can keep a lookout for review groups. For example, "WYRMOpen in new Window. is a private review group for scifi, fantasy, and horror writers looking for a certain type of review. Watch for "exchange" type groups as well. You review them, and they review you. You can also team up with another newbie to exchange reviews. Find someone who writes what you write (poetry, short stories, historical fiction, etc), and send them a review... ask if they'd like to exchange reviews with you.

*Buttono* Get More

Is it just MORE reviews you're after? A bigger variety can be helpful. If this is the case, you can do all of the above, but the best way to get more reviews is pretty simple: Review. I've found that the more reviews you give, the more you receive. The more active you are in the community, the more reviews you'll receive. Get out there... get active. Join some contests, some of them review all entries. Join some activities, some require participants to review each other (like "I Write in 2020Open in new Window.).

If you're nervous about reviewing, review other newbies. That's not too threatening, since they're in the same boat as you, right?

One of the benefits of reviewing is that you can earn gift points (gp). First, you get gp for reviewing in general. Second, other people may like your review and send gp. Third, you can join a review group like "WdC SuperPower Reviewers GroupOpen in new Window. or "Simply Positive Review Forum Open in new Window.... they give you gift points for every review you affiliate with them. This way, you can afford as many Request a Review reviews as you want. *Heart*
