You have considerable skill with this horror genre. This story is an excellent example of the genre and it supplies what is promised more than most. You can write too, and I think you could easily turn your hand to other genres.

The story develops from a fairly ordinary beginning but it isn't long before it begins to get a bit creepy. You supply additional information as it is needed and never get bogged down in complicated explanations. This trust in the reader's abilty to extrapolate from just a few details is an admirable trait and one of the keys to good writing. It brings the reader deeper into the story and gets them fully on to your side.

Your powers of description, too, are excellent. I could see every step of this tale of a romance brought to the ultimate extreme by grief. The whole story is very powerful, including the hint of humour in the last line.

Presentation is one area where you could improve this piece. You would attract more readers were you to list three genres in the appropriate space in the heading. People don't do searches for Contest, so Horror/scary and Supernatural could be added to Dark instead. The font used is also small enough to give readers of poorer eyesight some difficulty. Increase it by one step and this shouldn't be a problem.

Finally, I'm not sure about the title. It didn't mean anything to me when I first read it and I'm not sure of its meaning even now. Something a little closer to the actual story might be more appropriate.

In the end, it's a cracking good story and well told indeed. Thanks for an enjoyable read. And happy anniversary!
