| Hello there, It's Mastiff, and I'll be taking a look at your work today. I have to be honest, I'm not a poet, don't know much about poetry, and the rules are much different than other writing. So take everything I say with a grain of salt, or a winter bag of it, knowing these are just my thoughts. I won't do much as far as technical corrections, unless I see something that really sticks out, because the rules are just so different. Thanks for sharing your writing! Why I chose it: Clearly I posted after you in I Write 2019, and I never cherry pick, even though poetry is not my forte. Especially for reviewing. However, I believe this contest has made me better at it, and it has raised my appreciation for it. So, 37 reviews ago, I might have just passed this by, and I am sincerely glad I didn't. How it made me feel: Old. But I've been feeling that for awhile. I have two jokes when people discuss age, one is inappropriate in most company, the other is that you have to grow old... but not grow up. It reminded me of that, and sometimes I'm more like a 10 year-old, but it beats 56! The youthful descriptions were as sweet as the older ones were dark. Good work. Points I thought you made: It's hard to describe, it's almost Dylanesque, if that's a word. (It should be...) Why shouldn't we be able to all go through our years with childlike wonder instead of back breaking dread? I'd say it's a damn good question, but I know the answer. Wealth has always been a cudgel, and it's alive and well today. Anything Technical: No. Even if I saw something, I was so deep into reading your work I wouldn't have stopped to note it. Nor am I going back, except to just read it again. Picking out flaws here would be like pointing out a flaw in a fine painting. It really was that good. Final Thoughts: I don't usually give this kind of review, check and see if you like. In fact, I think I can count the number of five star reviews one one hand, and I used to review much more.
