Writing a Novel [13+] One writer's musings on the process of producing a publishable product |
Greetings seasoned, Daniel! I absolutely loved this! I've been writing a novel since I was in my 20's, and everything you've said here is so true! I've done it all, and more than two or three times! I'm currently on my third novel (the first two are currently resting peacefully in a closet somewhere waiting to be finished. Seems they wrote themselves into a corner...). Honestly, I've changed names, changed plots, changed titles, changed everything including the laptop I started writing them on in the first place! I figured that once I got a few short stories published it would be easier than pie to write a novel. Just sit back and let my fingers do the work for me! Wrong! So very wrong! I found out there's a lot more to it than that, like writing an outline, or coming up with a good plot, or and ending, or waking up in the morning trying to get my stubborn Muse to help out. In other words, use my brain! Aaaarrrrggghhh!!! Great job, my friend! I was laughing from the first word to the last! 'Don’t have a lot of ideas? Then triple-space.' (I almost fell out of my chair when I read that! ) Kee ponw ritin gon, Daniel! PLEASE! Even if you never get that novel published, please know that you're still doing a great service to the rest of us out here who are watching our dreams go down the drain!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
