I saw your suitcase on the Anniversary Review page and thought I'd drop in to honor this occasion, your 8th WDC Anniversary!
I love poems like this, ones that bring you back to reality, yet show a very strong love. This one does just that. Your verses were excellent, telling a story that I really wish more people would understand & know.
In your sixth verse, you state that she feigns joy when he little one wakes. However, I don't think the joy would be feigned, not one bit. Just a personal opinion, and I know what it's worth. But the mother would be happy to be with her little one, even if her heart breaks, knowing that the baby is the two of them.
This may be American English here, versus your Queen's English, but for me, freedom does not rhyme with bomb. Again, just an opinion. Well done! Thank you for sharing.
