"SIMPLY POSITIVE GROUP" Hello there, Ann! This is a Simply Positive Review! Your poem acutely describes the loss of a soul mate and the emptiness left behind, in this woman's life. In fact it was such a shock to her, she couldn't begin to even believe the truth of his passing. She became a mere shell of herself, distant, and then distance, where no one who knew her could reach her -- try to shake the doubt away and bring her back to reality. It wasn't meant to be, just as she, without him, was not meant to be, either. Very profound poem, indeed. I could feel the heartache, the emptiness in the pit of my belly, just imagining such a devastating loss. I've known older couples, married most of their lives to the same person -- they are just as one person in spirit; when one dies, in less than a year, their mate followed. The quality of life wasn't there because of loss of the loved one in which to share each glorious day together. My mind envisioned a mourning dove, which mates for life and feels the loss of its mate each day. Whenever I see one on a branch, alone in the vastness of nature, my heart goes out to it. Wonderfully penned verses about a subject matter of profound sadness and loneliness. Good use of consonance and assonance, sibilance -- well woven within the lines at times to produce the best impact. Loved these lines: "Constricted deep within, The news confounded, confused" Well done! Until next time--write on! Regards, WebWitch My review has been submitted for consideration in "Good Deeds Get CASH!" .
