Radigan's werecat

    by: jraf Author IconMail Icon
"Daniel," Isabelle gasped, beating at the creature with a combination of her hands and the stick. "Daniel! Help! It's not an animal! It's one of Radigan's werecats!"

Daniel lunged at the creature with deadly precision, not even thinking over the consequences of digging the tip of his knife into the werecat's muscled back. It growled, spinning on him and unpinning Isabelle from the ground. The werecat didn't even have to touch him, however, and Daniel fell to his knees, weakened for whatever reason. His right arm, the one with which he plunged his knife into the creature, seared with a tingling pain, shooting into his elbow and all the way up to his shoulder. Then, his arm felt numb and his heart began to race.

"Daniel!" he heard Isabelle shriek. His vision was swimming between misty grayness and twisted adaptations of what he supposed was going on. Daniel tried to make sense of the situation, but soon the fire was running up his neck, into his head, across his chest to his other arm.... Something like deadly poison or magic was running amok in his body, but he was no healer, and neither was Isabelle.

'What's happening to me?' he thought desperately, trying to find his feet. Funnily enough, his upper body felt too disjointed from his lower half that he couldn't maintain his balance. 'What's going on? Is Isabelle all right?' Daniel fell to the ground once more, watching in flashes as the werecat took on its male form. All was gray for a second. The strange man was overpowering Isabelle, shouting a few commanding words that stopped her from plunging Daniel's dagger into the werecat as well. Gray. Werecat pointed at him, muttering. Gray. Isabelle, crying, dropped knife. Gray. Werecat tied her up. Gray. They left him for dead.

This time, the gray made way to solid, suffocating blackness....
