You decide to just open the door and see what Josh’s reaction is - after all, he’s a big guy too, though not as big as you are. You reach forward and pull it open. Josh hesitates, and you can see that he’s actually bigger than he was in June - boy the fat camp must not have worked! Josh says, “Boy, Mike, you put on some weight in college! Looks good on you! Is (insert your name here) home?”
Josh has mistaken you for your big brother - not that you’re surprised, given how much you’ve gained. You say, “I’m (IYNH).”
Josh’s jaw drops. Then he smiles. “Good one, Mike, but even I know that no one can gain that much weight in a summer. I mean, I’ve been trying to gain weight all summer, and I’ve only put on about 20 pounds.”
“No, seriously, I am (IYNH),” you go on. “You’ve gained 20 pounds? I thought you went to a fat camp.”
“No, no, it was a football camp, for defensive linemen. It was great, we had all the biggest pro linemen there - Gilbert Brown, Refrigerator Perry, Tony Siragusa, Garry Howe, Ross Verba, Tre Johnson - but I didn’t grow all that much. Not a problem you have, anyway, I’ve always liked your size. I guess it comes from your Dad. (IYNH) is such a twig compared to you.”
“I am (IYNH).”
“Oh, come on. Prove it to me. If you’re really (IYNH), go get Mike.”
“No, he’s upstairs asleep. C’mon in, and we’ll go see him together. You can wake him up - if you dare. He’ll be surprised - he hasn’t seen me this big either.”
“Boy, you do sound like (IYNH),” says Josh as he comes in. “But if you’re really (IYNH), how’d you get so fat? You make me look small!” The stairs creak a bit as he heads up them. They creak a lot more underneath you, as you start to slowly go upstairs. If you’re going to stay this size, you think, you’ll have to reinforce the stairs - but that would be good for your brother and Dad too. You could wish for that, you realise. You also think that you might wish for more muscle, because hauling 500 pounds up these stairs is a lot of work - you seem to be working a lot harder than Josh, or your brother or Dad do when they go upstairs.
You arrive at your brother’s door as Josh has quietly opened it and is peeking inside. You look in as well, and there’s the mountain of your brothers chest and gut slowly rising and falling as he sleeps. He sleeps a lot, you think, then you remember that his summer jobs have some strange hours - that’s what you get when you combine part-time jobs as a bouncer and a bricklayer. Josh...
