In high school, Eric had been active on the
track team as a sprinter.
Now, he sprinted as if his life depended on it.
As he sprinted across the floor, the monstrous
broom continued to advance. In one last burst
of speed, Eric managed to evade the bristles
of the mammoth broom, and took a moment
to watch as the huge janitor continued to push
the broom ahead of him across the lab.
Panting heavily, Eric had little time to
congratulate himself. He knew the janitor and
his broom could head back in his direction at
any moment.
He felt like an insignificant bug, scurrying
blindly from a huge monster. He wanted
nothing more than to find a refuge until the
frightening giant departed.
In the distance, his desk rose from the floor
like a huge plateau. To reach his desk
involved more travel across the wide stretch of
open floor. But, he could hide beneath the
desk and be safe from the giant and his
enormous broom.
Closer though was a huge cabinet, towering
like a cliff's sheer face. There was a shadowy
canyon of space between the cabinet and the
wall. He could dash into that crevice and hide
until the janitor finished his sweeping.
