Eric slapped his forehead in recognition. Damn, not Ben. His luck continued to go downhill.
Ben Westlake was a fellow researcher in the department. They were both young men. Ben was actually a few years younger than Eric, and every bit as much a competitor.
No rung on the ladder was safe with a guy like Ben always on the scene. Ever since Ben's arrival in the department, Eric had pushed himself to make an extra impression on the department's hierarchy. Still, Ben was their favorite. They all doted on Ben's achievements.
Well, once Eric revealed his accomplishment at building the world's first shrink ray, Ben's glory would fade.
"Dr. Brevard!" Ben shouted.
Eric watched as the giant man walked across the floor. He was dressed in street clothes — jeans, an M.I.T. sweatshirt.
Not only was Ben younger, he was also more attractive. In every way, he outshined Eric, who had known for only a fleeting time how it felt to be the star in the university's science department.
Eric cursed as Ben approached the shrink ray. The giant scientist examined the device, paying special attention to the defective focusing lens.
"I wonder what that guy's working on?" Ben said aloud.
Eric stepped out into the open. "Ben! Ben! Can you hear me?"
Ben did hear something. He stopped, tilted his head and listened for the odd sound.
"Down here! Ben!" Eric shouted.
Ben lowered his gaze. "Well, damn! What happened to you?"
Eric felt keenly his diminished stature in the face of the giant's immense form.
"I was working on an experiment. Can you help me?"
Ben took a few steps toward the shrinking ray and the testing platform. "Is this what caused it?"
"Yeah! It's a shrink ray." Eric watched the giant run his huge fingers along the surface of the mechanism.
"Well, it sure as hell cut you down to size," Ben said, laughing at his own remark.
"Can you help me? I need to have the focusing lens replaced."
"Sure. I could fix your machine." Ben looked down, a sly grin on his face.
Ben felt an enjoyable surge of power, including definite stirrings in his cock. Not that he felt any real attraction toward Eric, but having his main rival standing in front of him, reduced to the size of a kid's action figure toy, fed his substantial ego. He continued to smile as he realized how completely Eric was at his mercy.
And he also began to speculate about Eric's invention. Obviously, the guy had kept his research under wraps.
Eric didn't yet realize how he had made a grave error in judgment by placing his trust in his rival.
