The trouble with faking it

Anna tripped herself up and then lay still, her face hidden in her hair. She felt Mr Ret shake her and call her name, his voice getting louder and slightly high-pitched with impatience.
'Anna! I know you're faking it but it won't work, young lady! Anna! If you don't speak to me right now then you are going to be in even more trouble than you already are! ANNA!'
'What?' Anna yelled, suddenly leaping up with fury. Why did she have to be in trouble just because of something her stupid friend had done? It wasn't on! Anna started to cry, not even trying to conceal the tears flowing down her cheeks and the huge, gasping sobs.
