"Gee thanks!" replies Matt to Mr. Potts invitation to go to the kitchen, "but I only just arrived, I think I'd better sign in first."
"That's right," says up a pleasant-voiced woman seated at a desk in the school office. Matt can see that she looks friendly, almost grandmotherly, in a flowered dress that flows as she stands up. As she comes towards Matt, he figures she must be at least as big as his Dad - maybe three hundred pounds - but she moves easily to a counter near Matt. "We'll send him along for a special snack once he's registered," the woman continues, dismissing Mr. Potts.
"Right then," replies Potts, "must go check the roast beef anyway. You'll check on the delivery of that new mixer?"
"Yes, all right," replies the woman as she turns to Matt. "Now, you're new?" she asks, pulling out a drawer of files. "Name, please?"
"Matthew Butterworth," Matt replies. The woman pulls out a file folder.
"Here we are. Registration filled out, insurance completed, marks on file, first term fees paid - it looks like we just have to assign you a room and give you a map and and a timetable."
"Thank you," says Matt, not knowing what else to say.
