Well… today was interesting.
So, apparently, growing ten inches in less than two months isn’t exactly normal. Who knew?
Dad, that’s who.
I guess he had been watching me grow like a beanstalk and finally decided, “Okay, this is getting weird.” So last night at dinner, he casually said, “Mollie, don’t take this the wrong way, but… are you sure you’re not turning into a superhero?”
I laughed, but then he got serious. “I think we should take you to the doctor,” he said. “Just to make sure everything’s okay.”
And just like that, I had a doctor’s appointment scheduled for the very next day.
So this morning, Mom and Dad took me to our family doctor, Dr. Patel. She’s nice, but she looked very surprised when she saw me. “Wow, Mollie! You’ve really shot up, haven’t you?”
Yeah, no kidding.
She checked my height (4’6 and a half now—yes, the half matters), and then she had me step on the scale. Turns out, I’ve gained some weight too, but nothing crazy. She asked a million questions:
When did this growth spurt start? (About a month and a half ago.)
Have I been eating more? (YES. I’m always hungry.)
Any pain? (Just a lot of soreness, especially in my legs.)
When did my period start? (I told her last month, which made her nod like that was important.)
Then came the tests.
First, she took some blood (not fun) and said they’d check my hormone levels. Then, she had me do an X-ray of my hand to check something called bone age. I had never even heard of that before, but apparently, they can tell how much more growing I have left based on how my bones look.
After that, she did a basic check-up, looking at my reflexes, heart rate, and all that boring stuff. Then she said, “We’ll have some answers in a few days.”
So now, I just have to wait.
Dad still looks a little worried. He keeps saying, “I’m sure it’s nothing, but it’s good to be safe.” I guess I get it. It’s not every day that your daughter suddenly grows a foot out of nowhere.
Hillary, of course, is being dramatic about the whole thing. “What if you have some kind of mutant growth gene?” she said. “What if you just keep growing and growing until you’re, like, eight feet tall?”
Honestly? I wouldn’t mind that.
But still… I am a little nervous. What if something is wrong? What if my body isn’t supposed to be doing this? What if this growth spurt stops as suddenly as it started?
I don’t know. I guess we’ll find out soon.
For now, all I can do is wait.
