Minotaurs have horns. Werewolves have claws. Dragons have flame-breath. Every monster has something. But all were outmatched when it came to a certain type of creature -
Human women who were very determined to protect their fathers, husbands, boyfriends, and sons, in order to keep them from being taken away. Some would even place bounties on the heads of those who took their menfolk away.
Realizing that constant battles would be bad for themselves - like reducing the odds of getting a mate, while increasing the odds of getting a bounty placed upon their heads - a number of monsters have taken on a number of simple, and practical, approaches to getting a mate. This includes hiring a male human for a few hours, paying and letting them leave, being involved in a type of multiple-partner relationship where they have a shared boyfriend/husband with other monsters and/or humans, or some such similar deal, where everyone benefits, especially since monsters can do jobs that humans have trouble with.
Of course, one of these tasks is to keep outside monsters from causing trouble in the city.
Unfortunately, this is the only city of its kind in this world, as technology is still rather primitive, and travelling the roads and terrain to reach it would mean risking getting taken. As such, most other humans don't want to take the chance.
In this very city, we meet our protagonist, a young man of 20 by the name of Sorna. He's not exactly wealthy, but he's not in poverty either. He's about a year from leaving his parents home and living on his own. As such, he's looking for a potential wife.
While he is reasonably handsome by human standards, monster females have always seemed to be very attracted to him. One day, as he is returning from the market, four monsters approach him. They consisted of a kitsune,a minotaur, a gargoyle and an orc. "Hello, Sorna." They said sensually.
"Morning, ladies." Sorna replied, having a feeling he knew what was coming. "We hear you're looking for a woman to marry." Said the kitsune. Sorna nodded. "That's right." The four monster's eyes lit up with glee. "Well, if you had to choose between the four of us, which would you marry?" Asked the gargoyle.
Sorna chuckled. Awfully forward, these ladies are, he thought. They certainly don't mince words. "Well, I'd like to at least get to know my potential wife before I marry her. But I see where this is going. Hmmm....If I had too, I guess I would choose... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
