Outside trial testing.

As you thought a bit of maybe trying the device in the lab, like on yourself, you did look around and see your room is a bit messy, and you don't think it would be a good idea to do a trial run while within twenty feet of where Mimi is at. As such, there was only one option if not the apartment room itself, outside and somewhere else in the apartment.

"Hey, I'll be right back!" You let Mimi know as you walk past Mimi's door.

"Ok, try not to embarrass yourself again." Mimi easily guessing why your going out the apartment.

As you head to the door and enter the hallway, you thought a bit of where to try this device at, and you decided....
