The Procedure

    by: BeeJay Author IconMail Icon
After the college closed for the summer, I went back into town. The facility that Malcolm Kendrick was using put me in a waiting room with five other men.

"Fancy meeting you here, Professor," a familiar voice said.

I turned. "Riley? Good to see you."

Riley Kwan was another fellow I had met on numerous auditions. The young man with a penchant for Hawaiian shirts (and, it must be said, some truly off-color jokes) was a welcome sight in these bizarre circumstances.

"How'd things go for you on The Amazing Race?"

"Not so well, Riley; my partner died before we could answer the call."

He winced. "Sorry about that. I didn't mean to bring up old wounds."

"It's alright," I assured him; "you probably wouldn't have heard about it. Take a look at this." I pulled a small urn out of my pocket.

"What's that?"

"After Michelle died, her parents had her cremated. They gave me some of her ashes, to bring with me if I ever made it onto a show." I chuckled. "I wonder what she would have said, if she knew it would be like this?"

One by one, we were called into the facility.

When it came to be my turn, I followed the nurse to an exam room. I was given a paper gown and two trays. "Put your personal items into the red tray," she said, "and any items you would like to bring with you into the blue tray." Then, she left me to my privacy.

I put my money and the urn into the blue tray, and my identification and credit cards into the red tray. I figured that, compared to changing my sex, giving my female self documentation would be simple. Then, I got into the gown.

Once I was ready, the nurse took me into another room. "How is this going to work?" I asked.

"You'll need to be sedated before the procedure," she replied. "I'm afraid the metamorphosis would be awfully painful otherwise. When you wake up, it will be to a whole new you."

We went into a surgery room, with a chair. They prepared me for the procedure, then strapped me into the chair. Then, they injected me with a sedative; then, the nanites that were to change me.

The last thing I saw, before I lost consciousness, was the front of my gown being pushed out by my developing breasts.
