Chapter #7

Spanish Language of the Hostess

    by: Morphology Author IconMail Icon
Giving the remote to Jenn, Josh instructed her to copy over the hostess's Spanish language skills over to him. "I only took a couple years of Spanish in High School and I really wanted to get into it, but other classes needed to come first and the teachers started to get worse with each class." He told Jenn, who was doing as instructed. Back in High School, Josh was required to take a foreign language and decided on Spanish. His first instructor was a cute young woman, who looked to have just graduated with her teaching degree. The way that she taught all the beginners influenced him to take the next level of Spanish. However, much to his dismay, the young instructor had been replaced with a woman his Mom's age and she was extremely short tempered to a point where she didn't would not answer any questions. Instead, she instructed them all to read the book to answer the questions that they had. This teacher caused most of the class to lose their love for the language and look for other classes to take in order to get the needed credits to graduate.

Holding the remote up copy the experiences over to her boyfriend, Jenn carefully aimed the device at the hostess. Thankfully she was still stationary and looking through her phone as if nothing else needed to be done. Thinking about what she wanted to copy over, she clicked the copy button and brought it over to Josh who was eagerly waiting for the flash to envelope him. With a smile on her face, Jenn pressed the paste button and watched as Josh blinked his eyes several times to see again. "Well?" She asked, hoping to hear him speak with his new language.

Without really thinking about anything, Josh looked over back over at her. "What do you want me to say? Qué quieres que te diga" He asked surprised at how he easily it came out and he didn't really think about what he was trying to say. Seeing that Jenn was looking at him with a mix of confusion and excitement, Josh thought hard about speaking in English. "Sorry, I wasn't thinking and it came out." He replied with a chuckle.

Their conversation was interrupted by the waitress coming back around. "Are you ready to order?" She asked with a customer service smile plastered on her face.

"I'm going to have the Chicken Enchiladas." Jenn told her and looked over at Josh eagerly waiting to hear him speak again.

Taking a quick glance back down at the menu, he found what he was looking for. "And I will have the Combination Plate, please. Y tendré el plato combinado por favor. Estoy hambrienta." Hoping to see her astounded and amazed at him speaking her language, Josh looked back up at her to see her stifling a laugh. "What? I know I didn't say anything wrong. ¿Qué? Sé que no dije nada mala."

Composing herself to give her customer a quick lesson, she put down her notepad and knelt down so that they could hear her. "The thing is that you're using the feminine form instead of the masculine." She told him causing Josh to blush with embarrassment. He didn't really think about it and just spoke naturally. Since he'd gotten the language skill from the hostess, Josh also obtained how she spoke too.

"I'm sorry, I guess I wasn't really thinking about it." Josh confessed, still blushing at his mistake.

Brushing it off as nothing, the waitress stood back up and grabbed her notebook. "Think nothing of it and keep working on it." She told him. "I think its great that you're working on learning another language." She waved them goodbye as she made her way to the back to start inputting their order to the kitchen.

As Josh watched her head to the back, he muttered to himself. "I can't believe I made that simple mistake." Folding his arms onto the table, he rested his head on them and groaned.

"It's not too bad." Jenn replied while picking up her cup to get a drink.

Bringing his head back up, Josh looked around to see everyone carrying on with their conversations. "I guess you're right, if I pay attention to what I'm saying then it shouldn't be too bad. So what do you think we should do next?"

Looking around, Jenn could still see the hairdresser eating her meal. A couple of tables down there was a man in a suit handing another person a small pile of papers to sign. Just next to that table was a man in a pilot's suit just being seated. He looked to be really tired and probably got off, what Jenn assumed to be a long haul flight.
