Mom Remote - Kims getting an idea

    by: Morphology Author IconMail Icon
As she was driving home, Kim couldn't believe how her daughter was acting. Whenever they were together, she was the perfect child; always courteous, helpful, and thoughtful of others. In all of her years she never would have thought that her own daughter would be acting like some stuck up princess and thinking that others were below her. 'I wonder if its all of her new friends that she's been hanging out with recently since she became a cheerleader.' She thought to herself as she glanced over at Courtney, who was a little too preoccupied with her social media to see what was going on. Seeing what her daughter really thought of her, Kim decided to bait her. Clearing her throat, she asked. "So I hear that Mom and Dennis are planning something nice for the office Christmas party this year."

Upon hearing Dennis' name, Courtney's face morphed into a disgusted look. "Oh you mean like last year when they had it at the local hotel and got some creepy ass clowns to 'entertain' the kids?" She shuddered at the thought of clown's smiling makeup following the kids around hoping they would be able to make them laugh, or at the very least smile. "Their faces always made to have a grin. Do you know how much they freak me out?" She asked. "And don't get me started on Dr. Dennis." Courtney declared as she started to text once more.

"Whats wrong with Dennis?" Kim asked while coming to a stop at a red light. She lovingly thought of their recent movie date where they were able to go to the nice Italian place, La Bella. They had made reservations 2 months before hand just to get a table. Courtney was nice enough to watch the twins while they went out and Kim remembered Dennis wearing the nice suit, but oddly she didn't feel turned out about it. She thought back to last year's Holiday Party, when they both got too tipsy to drive home and had to order a taxi to get them home in one piece. She remembered sharing a bed with him, but just thinking of him naked started to make her queasy. 'Hmm... I wonder.' She thought to herself as the image of Jenn came to her mind. Just the thought of her made Kim's heart skip a beat. She was thinking about continuing the thought, but Courtney started up again.

"Hey idiot." Courtney complained. "The light is green. Why are you such a space cadet today?" Glancing up, Kim could see that it was indeed green. "Anyway, like I was saying." Courtney continued. "Dr. D is too concerned about his kids to worry about us. I mean, the last time he brought the twins over, Bri and James were playing soccer when James accidentally tackles Bri to the ground." Kim remembered this too. She and Dennis were having a quick chat over coffee when they both heard crying outside. Both bolting up out of their chairs, they made their way outside where they found the Bri sobbing while James was telling her it was an accident. Instead of comforting the crying child, Dennis instantly went to his son.

"Well, think about it." Kim interrupted. "If you lost your spouse, would you want to keep every little thing that reminds you of them safe?" Knowing that she struck a touched a nerve with the question, she smirked and continued on. 'Perhaps, I can talk to Dennis about getting in on this little experiment too.' She thought to herself. 'If he wants to be a part of our family, he needs to know how we all feel.'

Hearing a phone going off, Josh sighed as he was forced to pause the movie. "It was just getting good." He said to himself as he picked up the phone that was right next to him. "Hmm... Its Dr. D. I wonder what he wants." Holding the phone up to his face, Josh marveled at how easy it was to open his Mom's phone.

'How is my Tooth Fairy doing tonight?'

Feeling his heart flutter upon reading, Josh knew he had to answer and keep Dr. D from sensing anything was different.

'Fine, I was able to finally get off of my feet for a bit. Mom....'

Seeing this, Josh decided to keep him in the dark for now and deleted some of the message before continuing. Thinking of what Dr. D thought of him, he continued.

'Josh was nice enough go and pick up Courtney for me. I've got a movie playing and cuddled up on the couch.'

'That was nice of him, I've always like him. But I wish I could be there on the couch with you right now.'

Reading this, Josh, again, could feel his heart beat skip a little.

'Are you still wanting to go out tomorrow night? I've been doing some work for the Executive Chef at La Bella and might be able to get us the Chef's table.'

'I don't know yet. Can I get a rain check?'

Hearing a car pulling in, Josh put the phone away for the time being and turned his head to the front door, just in time to see his Mom and sister coming inside. "Hey Mom." Courtney sweetly replied as she gave Josh a quick peck on the cheek. "I'm going up to my room for a bit."

When she was out of sight, Kim sat down next to him. "So that was enlightening." She replied as she told him about how Courtney was behaving and acting towards her on the way home. Shaking her head with disappointment, Kim looked back towards her son, who was still wrapped in her blanket on the sofa. "Has she always acted that way towards you?" She asked wondering what had gotten into her lovely daughter.

Thinking back for a moment, Josh subconsciously rested his finger on his chin. "Well, I think it started last year when she got on the cheerleading squad at school. Ever since she started hanging out with them more, she's had a holier than though attitude when it came to everything else." he pointed out while tapping his chin with his finger. "Why do you ask?" He wondered.

"Well, I was thinking of doing something that will teach her a little lesson by walking a mile in other people's shoes, so to speak." Kim explained. "But I'm afraid that I might need to let a couple people know about this remote." She told him while reaching into the hoodie that she was wearing and pulling it out.

"Like who?" He asked, not entirely sure it would be a good idea.

"Well, I was thinking ______________. I feel that they would be great to have Courtney walk a mile in their shoes." Kim replied nonchalantly.
