Melona waved the tip of her wand in a small circle, annunciating the spell as clearly as she could. A small trail of magical energy formed... And then quickly dissipated. Melona sighed.
The spell, if cast correctly, would conjure a piece of food that would restore mana, usually about %75 of the mana that was used to cast it. The food itself would dissipate quickly if not eaten right away, so it wasn't the most useful spell in everyday affairs, but was an extremely useful spell for practicing mana control, that is, the amount of power a caster wishes to put behind a spell. To pass the assignment, Melona would need to conjure something worth 20-30 units of mana, no more, no less. A small amount, even when calculated up. Melona couldn't even do that much.
She sighed, flipping her textbook closed. Maybe that was enough of this for now. She flopped onto her back, aimlessly waving her wand around. What was she doing wrong? Was she chanting the spell incorrectly? Was she not putting enough mana into it?
Or maybe I'm just bad at this. Melona thought to herself, sighing. Maybe I should just quit...
Melona was so consumed by her self-depreciating thoughts, that at first she failed to notice...
