You watched from Ms. Jones desk as she finally entered the room. School was over for the day, and you knew you’d be in big trouble. The class had all been shrunk to an inch tall to view a frog dissection close up. Benjamin dared you to stay tiny and not return to the tray that was taken to the machine to enlarge everyone. But you were now starting to rethink that decision.
Ms. Jones was your favorite teacher. She was a plump redhead probably around 50. She made class fun, and often utilized the size changing technology in her class. You watched as she walked over to the window, and watched the busses pull away before lowering the blinds.
“These papers aren’t going to grade themselves,” she murmured sitting at her desk. You watched as she opened her top desk drawer and removed an ashtray and a pack of cigarettes. As she lit one and let it dangle from her lips, she began grading papers. You couldn’t believe she was a smoker.
You sheepishly walked from behind the pencil cup, her eyes catching you, a stern look forming on her face.
“Uh… hey Ms. Jones…”
“Mike Peters!” She exclaimed, the cigarette bouncing up and down in her lips. “Why are you still tiny?”
“Well Benji dared me and I…”
“This isn’t good,” she said, removing the cigarette from her mouth and placing it in the ashtray, a stream of smoke coming from her lips and into the air above. “The shrinking device has been locked away for the weekend and you won’t be able to be resized until Monday morning. Your parents will be upset they have to keep up with their inch tall son for the weekend!”
You clearly hadn’t thought this through.
“Oh… uh… my mom and dad are out of town and won’t be back until Monday morning…”
Ms. Jones rolled her eyes and looked at you, she smirked at the absurdity as she took another drag off of her cigarette.
“You just don’t think, do you?” She asked rhetorically, exhaling a large stream of smoke down towards you. You coughed lightly, but dared not say anything.
