Chapter #2

Entering the Giant House

    by: _H_ Author IconMail Icon
You marked a star next to the first island on the map. After all, it did seem like the highest chance of meeting a giant. It seems like a lot of other people had the same idea, with at least a third of the group all heading toward the first island. The waves were calm and it was only around 40 minutes away, so you just relaxed in your boat as the small current carried you toward it.

It seems like you relaxed a bit too hard, and fell asleep in your boat. You were shaken awake when your boat ground to a halt on a sandy shore. Getting up, you took a look around to see where you had actually landed. Most explorers’ plan was to just dock at the island's port and collect information before heading toward the forbidden area. You, on the other hand, were essentially in the middle of nowhere. Stepping onto the island, the first thing you noticed was a sign with a red skull on it. Beyond it was a dense forest, with trees that seemed to get more complex as it went deeper. Looks like you found the forbidden area!

You didn’t have much of an issue venturing into uncharted territory, since you were an explorer after all. Whipping out your sword, you chopped at any vegetation in your path as you made your way through the forest. It didn’t go on very far, however, as you soon stepped out onto some sort of grassy plain. The forest seemed to have been very long, but not very thick. Almost like it was planted there intentionally…? Though what really caught your attention was a massive wooden house a couple of dozen meters away from you. In fact, calling it massive was an understatement. It was much taller than any structure you’d ever seen, with a door that seemed at least 80ft tall. Looking around, you didn’t see any trace of the giant that you assumed lived here.

You dashed towards the wooden door, which had an opening underneath that was large enough for you to go through. Once inside, you noticed that the only source of light was from outside the windows. Considering you could make out the shape of a light hanging from the ceiling, this means that the giant was out right now. They wouldn’t mind if you took a look around, right?

Walking across the massive wooden floor, you took in the sights around you. It was actually a rather nice house and was pretty clean too. It had a rustic feel to it, with a lot of the furnishings made out of smooth wood. While walking near what you assumed to be a table, a voice called out to you.

“Hey, over here!”

Looking at the source of the voice, you saw a man with tattered clothing hiding behind one of the table legs. He motioned you to come over, so you decided to comply. He was the first fellow explorer you’d seen so far, after all.

“Pretty big house, huh? I haven’t had any luck finding the giant yet, have you?”

You asked him a few questions just out of curiosity. However, the man only had a tired look on his face.

“Seen the giant? Hell, I was lucky enough to survive those beasts outside! How did you get through all of the forbidden land without a single scratch!?”

You just shrugged your shoulders.

“I, uh, found a shortcut?”

He audibly sighed.

“Well, anyways, make sure to hide before she gets back. She’s a force to be reckoned with!”

Wait, so he did see the giant? Though judging from his appearance, he didn’t seem too pleased about it.

“In my crew of 8, I was the only one who survived. We were in the middle of fighting against a damned manticore when all of a sudden a huge sandle came down and crushed both it and my crewmates. The giant didn’t even notice, she just went on her merry way!”

“Oh, um, sorry for your loss?”

“I don’t need any pity. At this point, I'm satisfied with just getting some treasure.”

While you talked, you heard a noise that spooked both of you. Hearing a large creak, you both turned around to see the door open and the light above you come on. A gigantic woman walked through the door, stretching her arms as she let out a loud sigh. Considering the panic on the dishevelled man’s face, this must be the giant you were looking for.

“Ah~ going out for a walk always feels great. Couple more bugs out than usual, but I guess they like sunny days too.”

Her voice boomed out, giving you a sense of scale for how much larger she was than you. What surprised you the most was how nice her clothes were. Based on the few stories you heard, you assumed giants to be wearing ragged clothes made of whatever they could find. This giant, on the other hand, was wearing a fairly well-made blue dress with golden jewelry on her arms and hair. Her dress was fairly revealing too, showing off her cleavage and legs. Guess even giants cared about their appearance, huh? Maybe they weren’t so different from humans after all.
[For reference, it’s basically the same as her Zou outfit]

While you were frozen in place entranced by her appearance, she began to move. Her sandals smacked against the wooden floor as the ground under you shook with every step.

“What are you doing mate, hide!”

The man next to you was cowering behind a table leg, clearly afraid of getting her attention. You, on the other hand, were surprisingly calm. She didn’t seem like a bad person at first glance. Maybe if you talked to her, she’d actually be pretty reasonable! And most of all, your adventuring instincts were telling you that the potential for fun was at an all-time high.

The shaking in the floor grew in intensity as she walked next to the table. Her feet were quite close to the table, close enough that you might be able to hitch a ride on them if you timed your jump right. It was very unlikely that she noticed you, so she’d probably just continue walking past the table regardless of what you did. But then again, you remembered the story the cowering man told you. She didn’t seem malicious, but one wrong move and she could very easily end your life, intentional or not.

Having only a few more seconds, you made your decision.
