Looking over the side of the boat, you noticed the water had gotten much more turbulent. Even stranger, it had gotten… darker? You continued to watch, quickly realizing the dark spot in the water was getting larger and larger. You couldn’t see what was under there, but it was definitely coming closer to the surface! You’d encountered sea beasts before, but most were the size of a frigate. Whatever this creature was, it was easily wider than 50ft! You had heard legends about creatures called sea kings, but you didn’t want to consider the possibility that this was one of them. Regardless of what it was, you needed to get out of here!
Grabbing some paddles, you began to quickly try and row backwards. The waves made it difficult to move, but slowly and surely you were heading away from the ascending creature. You just barely made it out of the radius of the dark spot before you witnessed this behemoth rise out of the water. The first thing you saw was something pink, shaped almost like…hair? The rest soon followed, making you realize this was no sea beast. An absolutely gigantic face arose out of the water, dozens of gallons of water being displaced as it broke through the surface. The waves caused by it pushed your boat back quite a bit, but you were still fairly close to her face.
You could do nothing but stare at it in awe as it loomed in front of you. Her face was easily over 150ft in height, dwarfing even the largest pirate ship. The rest of her body was still underwater, only giving you a good look at her shoulders and up. Her long pink hair flowed onto the surrounding water, almost looking like a makeshift island.
“Ahh~ Another beautiful morning!”
The loudest voice you had ever heard boomed out of her mouth, being loud enough to even shake your boat. Her mouth was certainly a sight to behold, looking big enough to easily swallow even a marine ship. With her eyes now open, you had to consider your next course of action. Your goal was to find a giant, and here was one in front of you! Albeit, a bit bigger than you expected. With just a simple movement she could easily crush your boat, so you decided to think quickly. Grabbing a flare gun off the floor of your boat, you loaded in a flare and launched it high into the sky. It was bright enough that you had to avert your eyes from the red glow, so hopefully, that’d be enough to attract her attention.
“Eh? What’s this red thing…”
Her face moved slightly closer to you and the flare, making you realize you had to get her to notice you quickly. Loading up a sound dial, you use its voice-enhancing feature to make your voice dozens of times louder.
“Hey, stop moving for a sec! Take a look down here!”
She stopped for a moment, making you breathe a sigh of relief.
“Did…something just speak?”
“Yes! I’m down here! I’m a human!”
It seems like your plan worked, as her head tilted down towards your general location. You watched her blue eyes squint, clearly trying to make out your tiny form. Suddenly, her head lowered down near your boat, bringing you right below her giant blue eye.
“U-Um, hi!”
Her eyes went wide, and she quickly moved backwards. The sudden movement caused even more waves, almost making you fall off your boat.
“A-a-a…h-human? It can’t be…”
Not wanting to lose this opportunity, you pushed further.
“I’m a bonafide human! I ended up here by accident, so I’d really appreciate any help I can get!”
She still looked a bit tense, but her shoulders relaxed a little bit.
“Would…would you mind if I picked you up? It’s a little difficult to see and hear you…”
Although her voice was much softer, it was still loud enough to cause vibrations in the nearby water.
“Sure thing! Just… be a little careful, alright?”
Placing your trust in this giantess you just met, you waited to see what she’d do. She hesitated for a moment, but then slowly brought one of her hands out of the water and placed her finger under your boat. Although she was gently raising it through the air, you still had to hold on tight due to all the wind coming down on you. Once the wind stopped, you opened your eyes to find yourself in front of her face, just above her nose. You couldn’t say you weren’t intimidated, but right now your sense of survival overtook any sense of fear.
“Are you truly a human?”
“I am! Have you never… seen one?”
“I’ve read stories about the strange race living on the surface, but I didn’t expect them to be this…”
“…small?”
She seemed hesitant to say it, so you decided to finish the sentence for her.
“Heh, it’s funny that you’d say that since I’ve also read stories about giants in faraway lands! Though not ones on the same scale as you.”
She let out a soft giggle, and any tension left in her was gone. You were still a bit wary, but you didn’t have much choice other than to place your faith in her.
“So, um, what’s your name?”
“Oh! I am Shirahoshi! Do you have a name as well?”
That felt like a bit of a strange question to ask, since didn’t everyone have a name? Maybe it was simply a difference in cultures.
“I am the great explorer and adventurer Edward Doserman!”
Strangely enough, she made no reaction. Not even to your signature bow! Almost every person you’ve introduced yourself to has reacted in some way, be it either in admiration or just making fun of you. The main reason you did such an extravagant introduction was to get an idea of who you were dealing with, but Shirahoshi simply tilted her head in confusion.
“An adventurer? What is that?”
“Y-you’ve never heard of adventurers? Death-defying individuals, who adventure throughout the sea to explore the unknown?”
“Sorry, the place I was raised didn’t have much information about the outside world…”
”Have you ever had fun, or played with friends?”
Once again, she shook her head.
“My family wouldn’t allow me to leave my room… The only time I am allowed out is for short excursions like this. I’ve read stories that had characters with friends who had fun together, but that’s about it.”
You couldn’t believe what you were hearing! She didn’t know the thrill of adventuring, much less the concept of fun. Against your better judgment, you resolved to do something about this. You ran towards the edge of her finger and made a daring jump onto the tip of her nose.
“O-Oh my! Are you alright!?”
“Alright Shirahoshi, here's what we’re gonna do. From here on out, we are certified friends! I’m gonna make damn sure you have fun, and experience the joys of adventuring!”
Her eyes went wide as they tried to focus on her nose.
“F…Friends? Are you sure you’d want to be friends with someone like me? My siblings often say I'm clumsy and a crybaby…”
“That doesn’t matter! All that matters is that you get to have a good time! Plus, I think it’d be cool to be friends with a giant.”
“Then… I’ll gladly be friends with you!”
“Good to hear! Though now I’ve gotta figure out how to get down from here…”
You made the jump on impulse, but now that you were here you realized just how high up you were.
“Oh! Let me help you!”
Her titanic finger began approaching you, its imposing form threatening to crush you if she so pleased. Luckily it stopped just short of your body, being low enough that you could safely step on.
“Hehe, thanks…”
Shirahoshi responded with a smile as she moved her finger away from her nose.
“I don’t feel confident keeping you here on my finger, so I’ll let you stay here for now.”
She brought her finger over to one of her shoulders and tilted it slightly so you could walk off along with your boat. Her shoulder was more than large enough to accommodate your size, though you made sure to stay away from the loose locks of pink hair hanging across it.
“Well Shirahoshi, did you have anything in mind you wanted to do first?”
“Can…Can we really do anything?”
“Anything to your heart's desire! If there was something fun in those books that you might want to try, feel free to let me know!”
You probably should have mentioned that you should be able to realistically do it, but she seemed really excited about the idea of doing anything.
Just what did she want to do?
