The bodies it could craft were far beyond those that simple genetics provided. Boosting the function of certain organs so a waist could be shrunk beyond what was previously thought possible. The boosted, firmness and extended youth that came with these procedures was another unforeseen benefit.
However, not every lab was run with the same ethical standards. With criminal gangs promising, and providing entire re-writes for a body, from head to toe. Their clientele expanded and extended the nanites to work on men, too. The group previously escaping the same pressure on standards of beauty.
As it became obvious, that complete gender reversals could be performed, curiousity meant demand surged. From those who wished to experience the flip side of the coin, to those who used it to punish, and enforce loyalty.
