the Antarctic

“You are out of your mind,” you say with a laugh when the government agents tell you where they want you to lead a rescue.

“I assure you we are not,” the human agent replies.

“I appreciate the vote of confidence, but I’ll take a hard pass,” you reply. “The reason I’m so good at my job is because I stay in my own backyard. And even here, the environment can catch me by surprise. I’d be useless to you in the Antarctic.”

“We have no one else we can turn to, Mr. Blutarski,” the human agent replied.

“And it is your duty,” the wolf agent growled. He had puffed out his chest and raised himself out of his seat in a faux show of dominance. The human agent tapped him on the shoulder and gestured toward the rest of the bar.

The bar had gone quiet, with everyone staring at the wolf. More than a few of those stares were less than friendly.

The wolf quickly backed down and returned to his seat.

“I face down blizzards and avalanches for a living,” you tell him. “So save the big bad wolf act for someone who will be impressed by it.”

You turn to the human agent and ask, “So who would I be saving?”

The human agent answered, “A team of
