The counselor was a woman around Dad's height, and looked much like an Amazon with well toned muscles. She was professionally dressed, and carried a thin folder and data pad under one arm. Her hair was jet black, like Dad's, flowing down just past her shoulders. She took a seat across from me at the table, then looked into my eyes. She retrieved a small device from her dress jacket pocket and carefully fit it into her mouth. It looked like a teeth guard, with a thin piece to cover her tongue.
"My name is Sitara Andromeda." Calmly, she said. "The device I had fitted into my mouth is a universal translator; its specifics would likely bore you, so we will skip that for now."
I could only nod. "Am I in trouble, Miss Andromeda?"
Sitara smiled. "Please, Sitara; and no, you are not in any legal trouble; though you will be facing a challenging pregnancy and childbirth, as well as possible social scrutiny."
Again, I could only nod. I knew there was likely little time, and I had a thousand questions. "What trouble is Kale in?"
Sitara sighed. "Please understand that Orion males outnumber females over a thousand to one." shocking me, she explained. "That said, there is a lot of competition among the males."
I was stunned to say the least. "Then you discovered us."
Sitara nodded. "Ever since that discovery, we had made it a global law that Orion males are not to mate with human females, until the cultural shock that humans are not alone in the universe wears off."
I gulped. "He didn't tell me he was an alien."
Again, Sitara sighed. "No, he confessed that he did not." Firmly, she replied. "Normally, such a crime would require the end of his existence. However, because you participated in the encounter willingly, he was simply rendered sterile for life for reckless procreation with an alien species."
I sighed; mostly in relief that Kale was not sentenced to death for a one night stand. I was disturbed that I had made love with an alien, but also curious, in a dark way. Every question brought more questions."So... what now?" Worried, I asked.
Sitara gave me a reassuring smile. "You will have a child; only it will be born in three months, rather than nine. Humans are not really built for such a short gestation, so it will be painful, but also quick by your standards. Once the child is born, you will have a very difficult choice ahead of you."
I turned pale, just imagining what this choice may be. "You want to take it away, don't you?"
Sitara shook her head. "I do not; but my superiors feel a young human adolescent is not prepared to raise an Orion child."
Dad cleared his throat. "That would be complicated, as there are laws on this world as well. Also, your superiors obviously do not understand the powerful emotional bond most Earth mothers carry with their children."
Sitara nodded. "As I said, your daughter will face a tough choice. Either raise her child here on Earth, with counselors visiting every four months; or raise it on Orion, surrounded by people who know what to expect when raising such a child."
Mom gasped before turning slightly red. "You are not taking my daughter anywhere."
Dad shrugged. "I rest my case."
Sitara sighed before handing Mom the data pad. "Everything your daughter needs to know is in there. I shall now leave you to talk over what I have told you."
With that, she left the house, as thunder again began to sound in the near distance.
