Chapter #2

Janet, 21, daycare worker

Janet Kellen was a part-time community college student and a mostly full-time worker at a daycare. But that life really made her full time miserable, which sucked because she kinda liked school, she really liked kids, and she wanted to be happy at what she was doing. But between bills that always were more than her account, coursework that always took more time than she had, and a family that was either completely absent or wholly unsupportive, she was just so darned tired. She rarely had time for her art, or fiction, both of which tended to be escapes for her. So, she was scrapping by, not really feeling like she was even alive. Which wound up being very awkward for when she eventually wound up not being alive.

Her folks had basically kicked her out, and the only apartment she could afford was a dump over an old gas station, and the owner had not even cleaned out any crap, so she had a place with more dusty old boxes than places to sit. She was going through these boxes, and found some really ancient crap, none of which seemed all that valuable, which would have been nice since the guy said she could do with it what she liked. But it seemed to be old rocks and rusted trinkets, though some of the rocks were pretty....like this shiny blue one, too bad it wasn't a nice sapphire gemstone...plop.

Janet would be freaking out, hyperventilating, even passing out...except for one tiny little detail. She was in fact a rather stunningly flawless sapphire gemstone laying on the ground amid all the detritus from these boxes. She was completely aware, yet unable to move, and while the shock was stunning, without a mind to race or nerves to overload, she came to the realization she had been transformed into what she had been thinking about when she touched that shiny blue rock. She looks around for it, which is horribly dizzying since her vision is a weird fragmented 360 degree affair in her form as a gemstone. She sees the stone...
