It was at this moment, that Robert's phone started ringing. He looked at it, but didn't recognize the number. He Hung Up on it.
The phone vibrated again. Same number.
Robert picked it up. "Hello?"
"Is this Robert Wolfe of Wolfe Family Farms?" a male voice asked.
"Yes, what is this about?" Robert asked.
"The name's Greg Nosfuratu," the speaker said. "Procurer of Feral Humans. I just picked up three humans you might want - a middle-aged mare, a buck that's about breeding age, and a mare cub that has barely entered puberty. Normally, I'd be calling my usual buyer, whom you might know - Marcus Fang - and get about a million dollars total for the lot, especially since older adult Ferals aren't worth much anyways, and it takes skill to control Ferals that seem to be more than a bit aggressive, and one has to wait years for cubs to mature before they can be bred, but the moment that I registered the younger ones, I got told that they were Protected, and to get ahold of you. As for the older female, upon establishing the fact that she's the dame of the younger pair, seems she was also listed as Protected, and I was again to contact you. Seems you're offering a minimum of five hundred thousand apiece for them, regardless of grade."
"If the older mare and buck are whom I think they are, there's a good reason that I'd want first pick on them, as they'd be the Mate and Son of my Prime Grade Breeder, from Pre-Capture," said Robert. "As for the younger mare, guess the older one had one in the oven prior to me capturing the sire."
"Ah, I see," said Greg. "The Sire saved your life, or something, and thus anyone related to them, and possibly to them, you want first dibs on buying."
"That is correct," said Robert. "One point five million sound good?"
At this, Greg said.....
