Individual humans represent humanity in different ways. There are those who are the official representatives of United Humanity, representing human interests in official meetings and/or backroom deals. Humans also affect how aliens view humans, for good or ill, when they travel to a region that hasn't ever encountered many humans before (if any). And then there are merchants of varying sizes who cut deals with alien cartels, pirate bands and other groups that may or may not advance the interests of United Humanity.
Who will our story follow?
Deng Zhan, The Deputy High Representative of United Humanity for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy --- A fifty-seven year old civil servant, Deng has thirty-five years in United Humanity's Diplomatic Corps. He's the go to guy when dealing with the major powers at the top level
Anastasia Lukyanova, Vice Consul --- A twenty-two year old who recently graduated university and joined United Humanity's Diplomatic Corps, she's the most junior person on a diplomatic mission to a recently discovered star faring species
Jakob Broch --- The youngest child of the current Chief of the Hagen Trade Consortium, the thirty-six year old Jakob has a reputation of a playboy who has taken his private space yacht to some very interesting corners of the galaxy
Octavio Cedillo, --- Although he holds the title of Secondary Commodities Analyst for the Hagen Trade Consortium, the forty-three year old Octavio is the Consortium's "fixer," fixing problems with other parties that can't be solved through official channels
