Chapter #5

New “Kid” in Town

    by: Meh Author IconMail Icon
“So… it’s like a daycare for teenagers? Can’t you just drive me to the mall instead or something?” Charlie asked as his mother pulled into the parking lot of the Daycare Center. Charlie was kind of lanky, with dusty brown hair. He was wearing a band t-shirt and jeans.

“I kind of skimmed the website…” Charlie’s Mom admitted, bashfully. “But it said it was the perfect place to drop your teen off for the day. It said it was a ‘unique experience’ and a ‘great opportunity to make friends’.”

“Fine, I’ll give it a try. But if this sucks, I’m breaking out. The mall is just across the road.” Charlie conceded and opened the car door. “I’ll see you later, bye Mom.”

“Bye sweetie! Don’t be afraid to lean in and let yourself have fun, okay?” Mom said, before giving a wave and driving off to work.

Charlie sighed and walked into the building, only to be met with a pleasantly air conditioned front office, though no one was attending the desk. After a moment, one of the doors opened and a kind looking woman, probably in her early 20s through. Behind her, Charlie saw a room full of toddlers playing with toys and chasing each other around. Some were clothed, some were diapered and some looked like they were completely naked…

“Hello!” Said the attendant, snapping Charlie’s attention back to her. “Good morning, are you uhh… dropping off?”

“Uhh, I’m not sure I’m in the right place. I thought this was the… teenage daycare.” Charlie said, embarrassed to even be implying that he was here for ‘daycare’ after seeing the context of the frolicking toddlers.

“Oh, I see! No, this is the right place. We offer many services depending on the needs of our customers.” The attendant said, before adding. “My name is Rebecca, by the way. You can call me Becky.”

“Becky… Okay, I’m Charlie. This is the right place? I guess I promised to give it a try. Do I need to sign anything? I don’t really have any ID or whatever, I haven’t even started school since I moved here yet.” Charlie said, starting to come to grips with this. Maybe he’d meet some people who’ll also be going to his school here, play some video games, eat some snacks… Maybe even meet a cute girl here?

“No need to sign anything, we’ll get any necessary details from your Mom or Dad later. Follow me and we’ll get you prepared for some fun.” Becky said, beckoning Charlie to follow her. “So, what kind of experience are you hoping for, Charlie?”

“I guess I’m just looking for a connection, I don’t know. That sounds dumb.” Charlie said, regretting answering at all.

Charlie followed Becky back through the toddler room, there was a certain nostalgic chaos that endeared Charlie as they walked through. There were toys and games strewn about, kids playing together or on their own. Some of the kids stopped to watch as he and Becky walked through, a girl who looked about five years old and wearing nothing but a pull-up diaper walked up to them.

“Miss Becky, I really need the toi- Er, potty.” She said, dancing a little, like someone on the brink of bursting.

“Cassie, I’m in the middle of helping Charlie here. So you’ll have to either find someone else or just use the diaper. It was your choice to wear one.”

Cassie looked up at Charlie, blushed slightly and then quickly waddled off.

“Uh, I’ve never seen someone talk to a little kid like that.” Charlie asked, feeling a little guilty that that girl was probably about to soil herself.

“We here at The Service understand that our clients can be a lot smarter than they look, and for some being treated a certain way is part of the fun.” Becky said, opening another door on the opposite side of the room and leading Charlie through. This one contained a series of odd looking booths.

“What are these, change rooms?” Charlie said, wondering if they had a pool here or something. He stepped forward and opened the door to one to see if they provided swim trunks or something.

“Something like that, go ahead and step in.” Becky said looking like she was fiddling with a light switch on the wall.

Charlie stepped in and the door suddenly shut and locked behind him.

“So. How young were you hoping to become, Charlie? Four… Two… Even younger?” Becky asked as she fiddled with some more dials and flipped a switch, the machine around Charlie whirring to life.

Charlie was stunned, he didn’t know what was going on. All he could do was repeat back her words in disbelief.

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. Four?

2. Two?

3. Younger?!

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
