"I still can't believe this, five years of slaving away for them and they just... just throw me away like a fucking used tissue!"
"Yup, that does suck."
The older of the Wider's has not had a good few days to say the least. In a big merger with another company Brook's office had been hit hard with layoffs, her name being unfortunately on the list to be axed off.
She had come early that day crying, and in one of the few moments they rarely had together Mikayla had come to comfort her, no quips or insults, just one sister looking out for the other. She had even called the head of Brook's old job and gave the poor bastard enough hell to get her number blocked while Brook calmed down with the classic tub of ice cream on the living room couch.
That had been three days ago.
Now Mikayla's sympathy had run out and she was back to lobbing weighted insults and being snide to her elder sister in general. Currently they were sitting in the living room, which had quickly become the new norm as Brook would sulk in there with whatever snack she had claimed and bemoaned her life to her sibling.
"And I know I wasn't a pivotal employee or whatever, but literal years of coming in when those other lazy ass slackers no showed or of working late should have meant something, right?"
"Absolutely, you were one of their best."
Mikayla's words were flatter than wood as she skimmed her social feed mindlessly. Mikayla took her snickers bar, the third one she's had since sitting down, and pointed it accusingly at the blond laid out across the recliner.
"Are you even listening to me?"
"I suuure am, 100 percent."
"Then what was I just saying?"
"It was about how it sucks you got fired and they suck for firing you. The same thing you said yesterday."
Brook took one of the other snickers wrappers that had yet to be thrown away and tossed it impotently at Mikayla.
"Are you really going to be an ass to me even now?"
"Like, OH MY GOD!"
With the most over exaggerated huff Mikayla whipped herself around to be sitting in the chair and looked directly at Brook.
"You got fired, it sucks complete dick, I get it! And I totally agree they were a bunch of losers for doing you like that, but ever since you've done nothing but sit around and cry while stuffing your fat face!"
"Oh, real nice Mikayla, just kick me while I'm down, why don't you?"
"I haven't done shit but be supportive and listen to you mope all day! How long do you really need to get over it and start looking for a new job?"
This time Brook straight up threw her half eaten snickers at her sister, just missing her head.
"Fuck off! Just because you can get fired from every other odd job and bounce back the next day doesn't mean we all can!"
"Well sitting around being a fat, sad, sack of shit isn't going to help you out! You can't sit around forever!"
"It's only been three days!"
"So?! Start doing something! Go apply for a new job, or if you're gonna be here all day do some more chores instead of being lazy!"
"I actually can't fucking believe you right now, I get fired and a few days later you start calling me lazy?!"
"BECAUSE YOU ARE!"
"FUCK YOU!"
"AAAAHHHH!!!"
They both screamed in frustration at each other and flopped back into the recliner and couch respectfully. It wasn't too different from how most arguments ended between the two, though this one was particularly heated. After a hot moment of silence Mikayla sat back up and addressed Brook.
"Look, how about we try this. I'll put in a word for you at The Bean Machine and you can take your saggy ass down there and apply. It might not be your "glamorous" big office job but at least you'll be out doing something again instead of being here, constantly depressed and annoying me."
Laid across the couch, her head raised above her belly so she could glare at her bratty little sister, Brook had to bite back a retort. As much as she didn't like it to admit it, she did need to find a new job now. The house couldn't be kept up with just Mikayla's income as a barista unfortunately, but even still, having to work with her when they already live together sounded dreadful. But as a responsible adult, she didn't really have a choice, at least until she could look into getting a better job. Sitting back up dramatically the bigger Wider reluctantly replied.
“I’ll take it, I’ll just come with you to The Bean Machine tomorrow and we can get it all out of the way quicker.”
“Fine by me, just don’t mess it up alright? I don’t need you making me look bad in front of my boss.”
“As if you need me to do that!”
“Whatever!”
Mikayla stormed off, indignantly throwing the same wrapper that had been thrown at her back at Brook as she went by. Sending her off with another glare, Brook once again flopped back into the couch and pulled a pillow to her face, screaming as loud as she could into it before tossing it aside.
“Just who in the actual hell does she think she is?! Does a just a few measly days difference really make that big a change? She was so sweet and nice but I take a few days to regroup myself and she’s back to being as-No, she's being bitchyer than ever!”
She reached for the coffee table to grab another snickers only to realize she had thrown the last half of one at her dumb baby sister. Feeling drained she sighed as the steam began to leave her tubby body.
“And does she really need to keep attacking my weight? So damned sorry we all can’t have a metabolism as powerful as an incinerator! I don’t get where it goes, she's surrounded by all those coffee pastries and high sugar drinks all day and I KNOW she’s gotta be snacking on the job, not even considering the shit she brings home with her, yet she barely gains a half an ounce!”
Turning around she squished herself and her soft tummy into the cushions as she stared into the upholstery with an unfocused gaze.
“If only there was a way I could get her to see how hard it is to live as a normal, responsible person with normal responsible person problems. How hard some of us have to work at not blowing up in size. I mean, I work twice as hard as she does and I’m still heavier than her…”
Her eyes started to slowly become hazy as she began to dip into a nap.
“I bet if her job was any easier she’d blimp in no time… If it were…”
She began to drift off to a pleasant sleep, a last couple scattered thoughts escaping her lips as she did.
“I’ma a better worker… she’d be huge if job were…”
These thoughts went to sit in the back of her subconscious as she let sleep fully take her.
As she was told Brook had awoken at six the next day and brought herself over to The Bean Machine with Mikayla. The interview went pretty well and soon enough she was there on her first day with an apron and a silly bean shaped hat on. She spent most of her first day getting to know the other workers and learning the ropes, but there was something else she was working on too. Another goal she was going to work towards while she was there, and that was to-
