Veering away from Rylee, Jack headed over to the other girl, he legs crossed and one of her feet moving up and down. It took him a little while, and when he got there, the girl was still on her phone. Jack thought of what to do. With her being on her phone, it might be more difficult for him to get away with whatever he wanted to do without getting caught. But, Jack figured, he already made it this far and there wasn't any turning back, so he quickly hopped on to the sandal touching the ground. As he got on, Jack accidentally stumbled into one of the girl's sock-covered toes, which felt him and twitched. No reaction other than that from the girl though. For the time being, Jack was in the clear. He carefully got up on top of the girl's foot and looked up at her. She was still gazing off into her phone, the snap of her gum sharp. "All right," Jack said to himself, "this might not be as bad as I thought it was going to be". Walking over to the girl's tights, he began climbing. Jack made it just below the girl's knee when something happened.
"What the hell is that? Is that a bug?". A stern look across the face of the girl fell onto Jack. He stopped climbing and looked back at her. "Oh..." he whispered. Suddenly, the girl went from a look of seriousness to a look of surprise. "Did... did that thing just speak?". Jack was taken aback. How could she have heard that? He was below her knee and he didn't even speak that loud. But he may as well come clean, to at least try and avoid getting mistaken for a bug and crushed. "Yes, yes, this 'thing' just spoke. I'm a person, my name's Jack," he begrudgingly introduced. "Oh my god!" the girl cried and shook her leg. Jack lost his grip and slid down her leg, falling onto her foot. "Emma, is everything okay?" the professor asked. She awkwardly nodded. "Yeah, I'm sorry. A bug just startled me". Well, now Jack knew her name. Emma.
The professor went back to his thing, and Emma calmed down. "Was that really a person?" she thought. "It spoke. Or at least I thought I heard it speak. Am I going crazy?". Emma lowered her head and looked under the table at her feet. That same thing was still there, on her foot. "It's real, whatever it is," she whispered. Jack groaned in pain. The sudden fall had not felt too good.
When he opened his eyes after taking a moment to recover, what does Jack see?
