Ian’s mother sighed. She had been increasing portions and trying to impose a larger appetite on Ian for the past two weeks, yet he had barely gained. He had gained one or two pounds but other than that he looked the same and ate the same. His active lifestyle of going outside and playing in the nearby woods with his friends was enough to balance his calorie intake.
She watched as Ian walked downstairs from his room for breakfast. He would go back to school in less than four weeks, thus delaying his gain even more. “Morning mom” he said as he took a seat. His mother pilled a generous portion of fattening Mac and cheese onto his plate, with a doughnut on the side. “That’s a lot, mom, I don’t think I can finish it all” he said. “Nonsense, you’re a growing boy you need to eat well” his mother replied, piling another spoonful onto his plate.
Ian ate and ate, his flat belly pushing on his shirt. After thirty minutes, he finally finished. He sat back in his chair, rubbing his stuffed belly. “See? Not too much at all” his mom said. Ian excused himself and went up to his room. His mother placed their dishes in the sink and walked over to the Tv to watch the news. She had heard about some disease that was causing a stir lately. There was a lot of talk about temporarily making people stay in their houses except to leave and get food.
She watched as the Governor announced the town of Chesterworth would close down for about a year. This was the perfect chance to put some meat on Ian’s bones she thought. They had a week before the lockdown would be enforced. Ian’s mother (let’s call her Alice so I don’t have to say ‘Ian’s mother’ every time) became excited. With twelve months or more of being cooped up indoors, with no exercise would surely fill Ian out. She was going to take full advantage of this.
“Ian I’m going to the store; do you want anything?” She asked him from downstairs. Ian responded with a no and Alice headed down to her car. Their apartment complex had a designated parking area and an elevator straight to it which would make shopping trips much easier in future. Alice drove off to the local shopping centre. As she entered, a new shop caught her eye. ‘Tubbs: Satisfy Your Sweet tooth’ read the sign. She parked and walked into Tubbs before she would go into the normal grocery store.
She took a cart and walked town the isles, which were lined with junk food. Collosal bags of candy, some probably containing thousands of calories, lined the shelves. On top of the products being exactly what Alice needed for Ian, it was also six times cheaper than normal food at the grocery store. She began dumping whole shelves of food into her cart.
